The P
Running back Brandon Jacobs (knee) and CB Aaron Ross (hamstring) weren’t going to play in the season finale anyway. So the Giants made it official today and placed them on injured reserve. Both players suffered through incredibly disappointing seasons they are sure to be happy to put in their rearview mirrors. Jacobs, after signing a four-year, $25 million contract, managed to make it through 15 games, but rushed for only 835 yards on a paltry 3.7 yards per carry. Ross played in only four games because of a left hamstring that he’s injured four times since August. They were replaced on the 53-man roster by S Sha’reff Rashad and QB Rhett Bomar, both of whom were signed off the practice squad. The move allows the Giants to protect both players by getting them under contract — likely for two years — before the end of the season when all practice squad players automatically become free agents. The Giants also replaced Bomar and Rashad on the practice squad by signing OL Rueben Riley and WR Bruce Francis. Riley is a 6-4, 326-pounder who spent parts of 2007 and 2008 in camp or on practice squads with the Panthers, Dolphins and Redskins. Francis is a 5-11, 170-pounder out of Temple who was at the Giants’ rookie mini-camp in May. http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/giants/2009/12/jacobs-ross-placed-on-ir.html
