Ditto Posted April 29, 2009 Share Posted April 29, 2009 With Molina catching, the team ERA is 2.83. With Posada, it’s 7.99. Sure, some of that is because of Wang, but I’d bet a month’s pay it would be at least over 4.00 without him. Now, I’m no mathematician, but it seems like Posada would have to produce 162 more runs above and beyond what Molina produces to make up the difference. This doesn’t even account for the extra wear and tear on the bullpen, or the reason to carry extra pitchers, which weakens the bench. Yet the skeptics still call it the tools of ignorance. PS Although I don't have the figures, the same thing happened last year. If Posada and Cashman hadn't panicked and picked up Pudge, we'd have been in the playoffs.
