Joseph’s Done

September11 Not that this should send anybody into a fit of mourning, but defensive tackle William Joseph was placed on injured reserve to accommodate yesterday’s signing of DT Russell Davis.

Joseph, the Giants’ first-round pick in 2003, was inactive for the Dallas game because of back spasms. The suspicion here, though, is that the Giants used his injury as a way of getting the career underachiever out of the way. Don’t be surprised if you read about an injury settlement that will make him a free agent, ala Will Demps, in the ensuing days.

Shed no tears here. He wasn’t a tremendous defensive tackle. And when given the chance to run first-unit at defensive end while Justin Tuck worked his way back into two-a-day practices, he was something less than impressive. Once Tuck was cleared for a full load, Joseph was shuffled off to the second unit, where he got snaps both inside and out.

So Joseph’s season comes to a premature end. Maybe his Giants career.

A big so-what?

Ciao for now.
