CHARLOTTE, N.C., March 11 (Ticker) -- In a matchup between the teams with the NBA's two worst records, the Charlotte Bobcats climbed out of the cellar.

Jumaine Jones scored 28 points and rookie Raymond Felton added 20 as the Bobcats posted a 116-109 triumph over the struggling New York Knicks.

Charlotte was coasting as it built a 13-point advantage by the start of the fourth quarter and pushed its lead to 104-89 on a dunk by Melvin Ely with just over six minutes remaining.

The Knicks stormed back however, cutting the deficit to 109-107 behind a commanding 18-5 burst over a five-minute span. Jalen Rose was the main architect of the spurt, scoring six of his 23 points, and rookie David Lee contributed four and six rebounds.

With the Bobcats fresh out of a timeout, Brevin Knight ended the burst with a jumper and Stephon Marbury misfired on a shot on the Knicks' next possession. Jones grabbed the rebound and was fouled, making both free throws to rebuild a six-point bulge at 113-107 with 38 seconds left.

After a turnover by Marbury eight seconds later, Bernard Robinson split a pair of free throws for a seven-point edge. New York would get no closer as it had to foul on every possession thereafter.

Primoz Brezec scored 18 points and Gerald Wallace added 16, 12 rebounds and three blocks for the Bobcats, who shot 47 percent (40-of-85) from the field.

Eddy Curry scored 19 points, Marbury added 18 and Lee had 11 with 12 rebounds for New York, which shot 50 percent (39-of-78) overall and held a 66-42 edge in points in the paint.
