Why? Just so he can fire the next guy a week before the playoffs?

Devils GM to hire another coach for next seasonESPN.com news services

New Jersey general manager Lou Lamoriello, whose Devils trail the Ottawa Senators 3-1 in the NHL Eastern Conference semifinals and faced elimination in Game 5 on Saturday, told reporters Friday that he will not coach the team next season.

If that sounds familiar, he said the same thing at the end of last season.

Lamoriello returned to the Devils' bench after Larry Robinson resigned in December of 2005, and after the season said he wouldn't do it again.

But Lamoriello returned for the third time after he fired Claude Julien with three games remaining in the 2006-07 regular season. The Devils have employed 14 coaches in Lamoriello's 19 seasons.

"I said last year [coaching]would never happen again, and, unfortunately, I find myself here, but that's just not in my vocabulary," Lamoriello told reporters Friday.
