  1. whatever, makes all giants fans seem like pom pom waving morons(not you GateB) that have no clue. If I were a fan of another team and read that I would laugh my ass off that NO ONE QUESTIONED IT!

was kinda thinking the same thing myself. i'd atleast like to see someone that was skeptical to have some representation of the actual fan base.

  2. If I could interrupt the juvenile name calling for a minute and return to the topic at hand.

Moss would be a horrible selection at 25. Heck, he might even be there when we pick in the second and I don't think I'd want him then. First of all, there is no way our #1 pick should be spent on a receiver. Secondly, Moss likely only contributes on Special Teams this season and we don't have a glaring need for him there. Third, he's a diminutive guy who may not hold up to the pounding an NFL wideout takes. Before you bring up Steve Smith or Santana Moss for an argument remember there are a lot more "smurfs" who didn't measure up, than those that did.

Move Eric Moore to the middle? Do you even know what the guy looks like? You can argue that Moore isn't even big enough to play Defensive End on this team and you want to move him inside and play Tackle? That might be the most ridiculous statement I've heard this offseason, and lets face it, there have been a lot to choose from.

    agreed

  3. I will never understand how anyone can compare Ron Dayne and Brandon Jacobs. Dayne was used in the same fashion as Jacobs was last year(although really, Jacobs had a lesser role than Dayne had in his first couple of years), and yet, when you look at it, Jacobs had 7 TD's on 38 carries. In Dayne's best year, he had 7 TD's on 180 carries, and quite frankly, I would be willing to bet that if Jacobs got 180 carries in a year, we wouldn't be dissapointed with the results.

i wasnt comparing their careers, i was comparing how jacobs performed very well in preseason, to ron dayne performing very well in preseason, to show that it can't be used to judge a player's ability. i'm glad you mentioned that jacobs had 7 TDs on 38 carries. i DO believe that he is a good goal line runningback and has shown potential to be a great GOAL LINE runningback. however, i havent seen relevant evidence that suggests that he is featured-back material. i would not call college performance (especially at southern illilois) or preseason performance, relevant.

  4. my opinion on this subject is this: if a runningback, such as deangelo williams, is the best player on the board, by a significant margin, we should take him. i think it's just illogical to take a player who you dont think is the best player on the board.

i'm not sold on jacobs, i saw ron dayne look very good in preseason back in 04 too, so preseason is definately not something i would use to guage a player's ability. i do think jacobs has the makings of a good runningback other than his height, but in his extremely limited NFL action, it's hard to tell how good he actually is.

  5. yea ialways wondered why. I don't think they HAVE too. There's guys in like the NBA who take numbers like 93(Ron Artest, lol what a joke)

actually in the NFL there are rules as to what numbers players can choose.

  6. That's the only thing that would make me somewhat optimistic about this pick. But if this was the situation I still would like to trade down and get some more picks from a team that would like Deangelo as their RB, possibly the Colts.

i can't disagree with ya there. if the player we want isnt there, and a team like the colts would give up a lot to move up we should do it. i guess the point i was trying to make was that it's not necessary to get a runningback this year, but if a top runningback falls into our lap with the best defensive players off the board we should take the runningback. it's never too early to start looking for a replacement (unless you are ladanian tomlinson).

  7. With most major needs filled I think that allows us to go strictly BPA which is the best option. I'd prefer we look to the defensive side of the ball, but if a Deangello Williams or Chad Jackson is available I think you have to take them

agreed. although i think the strategy should be the same, regardless of what happens to arrington.

  8. Was it 2 years ago? I guess it was, but Jackson really started coming around this year--or at least enough for me to notice.

I hope my post didn't read like I was disparaging Faulk--he had a great career. I was disagreeing that the Rams had a plan in place to replace him. And clearly he was well into his decline before the Ram's drafting of Jackson bore fruit.

well here's a better example, larry johnson. he was a good talent and the cheifs got him for a bargain, late in the first. they looked foolish initially, but it's looking like a pretty good idea now, no?

i'm not saying this would pay off immediately, tiki barber probably does have atleast one year left in him. we're just not solid enough at the running back position to not consider drafting a backup.

  9. Ummm, in the season opener he got at least 5 touches on 2'nd & more than 5 yards... for a big guy he actually got to the corner pretty quickly & when he turned it upfield & stepped on the gas.... look out.

And concerning what round you get starting running back material from did you remember a guy named Terrell Davis (drafted in the 6'th round)? He only ran for 2000 yards once in his career & won 2 Super Bowl rings, here are some others:

Earnest Byner (10'th round, 280'th overall 1984 draft) 2 time Pro Bowler, Super Bowl Champion with Washington.

Herschel Walker (5'th round, 114'th overall 1985 draft) 2 Time Pro Bowler, Among the top 50 All-time RB's.

Bo Jackson (7'th round, 183'rd overall 1987 draft) Possibly one of the most talented RB ever, only his injuries prevented him from re-writing the record books.

David Meggett (5'th round, 132'nd overall 1989 draft) All time leader in return yards up until a few years ago, 2 time Pro Bowler.

Dorsey Levens (5'th round, 149'th overal 1994 draft) A great threat in the running or passing game out of the backfield with Favre at the helm. 1 time Pro Bowler.

Curtis Martin (3'rd round, 74'th overall 1995 draft) 4'th all time in rushing yardage, 10'th all time in rushing TD's. Selected 3 rounds before Terrell Davis in the same draft year.

Stephen Davis (4'th round, 102'nd overall 1996 draft) A great power back that terrorized the NFC East for years with the Redskins.

Ahman Green (3'rd round, 76'th overall 1998 draft) 4 Time Pro Bowler & one of the main reasons Favre's career has lasted as long as it has.

Olandis Gary (4'th round, 127'th overall 1999 draft) Perhaps this wasn't the best example but a serviceable back for the Broncos.

Reuben Droughns (3'rd round, 81'st overall 2000 draft) Definatley better than Ron Dayne!!!

Mike Anderson (6'th round, 189'th overall 2000 draft) See comments about Droughns.

Rudi Johnson (4'th round, 100'th overall 2001 draft) Does it all for the Bengals, they tried to replace him with Chris Perry & it didn't work as he had a Pro Bowl season in 2004.

To say that where you are selected in the draft predicates how good of a player you will be is rediculous, if that was the only qualification for being a good player then none of the above listed should have ever touched a football & guys like Blair Thomas & Akili Smith should have had Hall of Fame careers.

Some people are unwilling to let players develop, interested in the immediate gain & not the long term, overall picture. We've seen this in the past with players like Ed McCaffrey, players that we were too quick to judge.... then look at what happens. Later in their careers they come back & burn our ass, I just hope that Jurevicius doesn't do that to us again when we face Seattle this year.

my point is not that there is not any talent in the 4th round, but that the chances are slim to none. you named 10 runningbacks in a span of over 20 years, and bo jackson hardly counts. reuben droughns and olandis gary werent all that great either. my point is, there's a 10% chance we have 2 starting runningbacks on our roster. deangelo williams is a good enough talent and we are in a good enough need to take him if he is available. and no VG, it's not going to be a rookie outside linebacker that's going to push this team over the hump.

  10. Yes, thats true, but you never know what his full capability is after only his rookie season.

well i guess we can't rule out blackburn to be a stud linebacker than... oh yeah, we can be 90% sure he wont be.

jacobs didnt spell tiki because that's not what he is suited for, the chances of him being a starting runningback in this league are slim to none. the same could be said about ward. we have almost zero depth at runningback. if (god forbid) something happens to tiki barber, we're screwed. it's just silly to pass up on such a great talent when our only starting runningback is over 30 years old. he's done fantastic but you only have to look back at history to know he will slow down soon. look at marshall faulk, preist holmes, emmit smith. injuries happen, and more likely to the older guys. the rams and cheifs had backup plans, the cowboys waited and they sucked for 4 years in a row while they waited for emmit to leave.

  11. uhh, he's a 4th round pick. 6'4'' 265. does he really deserve the benefit of the doubt? i just dont expect him to be a starter, and apparently neither does coach coughlin. he was never used in place of tiki barber, strictly on goal line and short situations. there's no reason to believe he is starting material, if he was, he probably would have been picked a lot sooner than he was last year.

  12. scratch that, we passed on cromartie, kinda dumb move there. but seriously, we should give deangelo williams a good look if he is available when we pick. i'd much rather take him then reach for a player just because we're in need of a linebacker. (in this case i'd have to say i'd definately take cromartie though)

  13. i honestly would not be totally against this move. for some odd reason deangelo williams' stock is dropping and it could be a bargain to get him that late in the draft. think 5 years down the road would you rather have a starter at linebacker or a stud runningback? it's not too early to be looking for tiki's replacement, especially since brandon jacobs doesnt appear to be starting material.

  14. I won't argue that the Texans shouldn't pick Bush but ticket sales have nothing to do with that decision.

i would disagree with that statement. football is a business and it would be a lot easier for the texans to market a runningback than a defensive end. i suspect that's why the lions took charles rogers out of local michigan state, but i can't confirm that.

  15. can you believe i got him with the 3rd pick in the mock. once again i'd like to point out how i robbed the draft. reggie bush is a football god and like money said, unless he gets injured he is going to be downright spectacular. i love to watch him play and i cant wait till he gets to the nfl, especially since he will either be for an AFC team, or the saints (and they will probably always suck)
