  1. Guys. Guys guys guys. Finally home from WLC (Army school). Two weeks away from home, and I missed almost all of the SuperBowl. They did have a SuperBowl party for the students and the game on the big screen in Grad hall, but it was made very clear to me that because I was Squad Leader that day and the next, that I was responsible for the students' performences that were being evaluated the following day. Wouldn't you know it, I had the two slowest people in my class being evaluated for leading PT the following morning, as well as a variety of other tasks I needed to complete to appease the instructors. I missed all but the final 9 minutes of the game. What irks me is people saying to me, "You didn't miss much" and "Nothing really happened until late in the 4th quarter anyway". I have been a Giants fan for as long as I've known what a football was. It's been 7 years since my team has been in the SuperBowl, and 17 since they won it in '91. I was 14 years old and still remember jumping up and down running all over my parent's house. I am 31 now. When my team makes it to the big one, I don't want to miss a second. Why can't these people understand that? I got no sleep that night after the game, partly because I was so pumped and partly because I had an immense amount of work to do still, from helping my intellectualy challenged squad mates pass and to complete the homework I had neglected due to the game and the homework/instruction I was doing. By the time I went to bed the next night, I was awake for 43 hours straight, and could only get 4 hours of sleep that night because of the late work/early wake up the next morning. It was grueling. Still, seeing the end of that game, "the catch" and so many of my fellow students going nuts after the victory, it was still special just being apart of it. I actually cried when they won. I was wiping away tears of joy, hugging perfect strangers, jumping up and down with them, screaming my head off, laughing, singing, it was awesome. The next day 3 people saw me and was like, "YOU WERE THE GUY THAT CRIED!" I just said, "hell yeah, tears of joy!" Truly a moment I will never forget. But now I just want to watch the game from start to finish. My girlfriend's dad recorded it and is sending me a dvd. Much to my chagrin, it wasn't here yet when I got home. Alas, hopefully on Monday. To make matters worse though, I saw no SportsCenter, as the only thing they showed was CNN in the chow hall, and there was no other TV we could watch, and almost as soon as the game ended, they kicked us all out so no post-game viewing at all. Guys, it was very hard for me that night not to watch that game, but seeing the end at least, and the first SuperBowl victory in 17 years, and 18-1, the whole thing, Hollywood could not write a better story about our guys. Truly unbELIevable.

    Good to be back.

You can download the entire game (the NFL Replay version) from Itunes for 2.99. I also downloaded all the playoffs games.

  2. I don't need a book to tell me that the most important player on the football team is the QB... hands down. Sure having a solid left tackle is important but so is having a solid (insert any position in football here)

So how do you explain Ravens winning in 2000 with Trent Dilfer, Bucs winning with Brad Johnson/Griese? I somewhat agree with you that the QB position is the most important but I look at it as a whole package...without a good offensive line a QB can only do so much...

When Carolina played NE in the superbowl I thought they were going to kill Brady with that front 4...but I couldn't believe how good the NE no name Offensive line was...he had ALL DAY to throw...don't underestimate the offensive line's impact and its sad to see so many teams do that. Every hall off fame QB/team had strong/excellent offensive lines.

    Bradshaw in Pittsburgh

Montana with the 49ers (until the 1990 Championship game).. :P

    Aikman with the Cowboys.

    Brady and Patriots

Congratulations, Giants fans! Your team is in the playoffs. And do you know what this means?

That's right! You have to watch this team for one more week!

Has there ever been a less satisfying NFL playoff team than these Giants? They are 8-8, tied for the worst record ever among playoff teams. And that might be the best thing you can say about them.

What is the worst you could say? It's a five-way tie between ...

    1. They lost six of the final eight games.

    2. Their best player, Tiki Barber, is about to retire in the prime of his career. He is only 31.

    3. Their franchise quarterback, Eli Manning, appears to be regressing.

    4. The players they traded for that quarterback play important roles for what appears to be the best team in the league. Philip Rivers, Shawne Merriman and Nate Kaeding are doing just fine in San Diego, thank you.

    5. The window of opportunity for this group of Giants is widely believed to be closing. And the man who put them together, Ernie Accorsi, is about to retire.

The Giants earned their spot in the playoffs by squeaking past a finished Redskins team Saturday night. Even Manning has admitted that the way the Giants have played, you would think they would be finished by now,

The Giants had Super Bowl aspirations at the start of the year. Now they don't even look like they can win one playoff game. And even if they do, what would that mean?

The Giants' first opponent, the Eagles, were left for dead after Donovan McNabb got hurt. If Eli Manning leads New York to a squeaker over Jeff Garcia, who looked washed-up a year ago, does that make the season a success?

A Giants win would also have other implications: it might just save Tom Coughlin's job, and there isn't much evidence that his job is worth saving. For the second half of this season, Coughlin appeared to have lost his team. Normally, the next step for a coach is to lose his job.

In this era of expanded postseasons in every sport, we have seen a lot of mediocre or listless teams make the playoffs. But the NFL is not supposed to be like the NBA or NHL. Making the NFL playoffs is supposed to mean something. It is supposed to be an achievement.

The Giants' postseason berth doesn't feel like an achievement, unless you are the kind of person who goes home from the beach proud that you didn't drown.

Imagine if the NFC actually had several really good teams. (I apologize for taxing your imagination here — if you get a headache, send me the bill for the Tylenol.) The Giants would have been left out of the playoffs, just like almost every other 8-8 team in NFL history.

And, considering the expectations last summer, the season would have been considered an utter failure.

Instead, the Giants get to live for another week. Maybe even two. And then Giants fans can mourn the departure of Barber, or hope he changes his mind. Barber sounds set on his decision, and for good reason,

If anybody thinks Barber is crazy for retiring so early, I have one question: have you ever watched an NFL game up close — from the really good seats or the sideline? I have. The athleticism is breathtaking, but so is the violence. There is a reason so many 50-something NFL players can barely walk. The human body is not meant to take this much pounding into its 30s.

    Barber is almost certainly gone.

    So are the Giants.

And Giants fans will be left to wonder what might have been. That should be easy enough. All they have to do is watch the Chargers.

Especially this line...but we all know that already....

  4. About playing the E-gulls in a playoff game? Every Giants Player asked if its bigger because itsthe E-gulls and no one wants to say yes. WTF? I mean c'mon, we got a chance to goin and beat the E-gulls in thier house, and noone is getting up for this, LOSERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Am I wrong thinking like this, or what?

Thats because they are completely shocked that they actually made the playoffs and now they are speechless...totally wasn't what they expected and now don't know what to do...lol.

  5. We need quality players. Not injury prone, mediocre talent. Goodbye EA, dont let the door hit you in the ass.

yeah man...he screwed the entire franchise with the eli trade probably for years.. :TD:

  6. Forget about support, if you are a fan you will always support this team no matter what...you don't always have to watch but still support and cheer em on whenever you can and whenever possible...having said that...

Who here thinks we are going to win? What are your predictions? What do we have to do beat Philly and conversely what do you think they'd have to do to beat us?

If I was Philly I'd stack the line and dare the Eli and the passing offense to beat them...

Now for the rest of the NFC/AFC wild card weekend...

    SAT, JAN 6

    Kansas City at Indianapolis

    Dallas at Seattle

    SUN, JAN 7

    NY Jets at New England

    NY Giants at Philadelphia

    Let it all out...

  7. The point is if you hand it off, there’s a chance to fumble. A lot of you are too young to remember the Joe Pisarcik hand off years ago in a sure win that we lost... against the Eagles, of all teams.

Besides, what was the point in running up the score and pissing people off?

Interesting you say that, Collinsworth was saying the same thing when they started taking a knee...

Something along the lines of "wanting to avoid the Pisarcik and Csonka moment..."

  8. Because the Giants would have backed their way into the playoffs? Because even in their wins (against crappy teams) they showed the same ineptitude on the field that they display week in and week out? Because his coordinators do a piss-poor job preparing their respective units to go out and match up against their opponents, and seem to use the same pathetic predictable schemes each week? Because Coughlin doesn't step in and stop those coordinators from repeating the same mistakes week-in-week-out?

And because the Giants are not going to make it past the wildcard round and will most likely get TROUNCED AGAIN?

If he isn't canned I will be HIGHLY pissed...of course I will watch them and of course I will root for them next year but this week GO SKINS! And that isn't reverse pyschology.

yeah I have to agree with some parts, the calling and the defensive play has been questionable at times...but the NFL is a "what have you done for me lately" league and if the Giants make the playoffs Coughlin just accomplished what hasn't been done since 1989 and 1990 seasons...and the front office would be mighty hard pressed to get red of this guy.

  9. I wish there was a book written about the mid 80s to early 90s Giants, but I checked amazon, nothing.

All they write about is baseball and the Cowboys. :brooding:

Dude you writing a book report or something? I noticed you posted the same questions on the Giants MB.

  10. At what point does a coach leave a LT on the field who feels it is acceptable to "bop" someone here and there?

I see your point but Mr. Discipline does a piss poor job of it when his team is on the field, and he treats the players like little children off the field. What makes the matter worse is that they are emotionally juvenille, so you do kind of have to handle them with kids gloves....which means when they do something good on the field show you are happy, don't keep marching up and down the sideline with a scowl on your face that would send the Grinch running!

If he takes Whitfield out who does he have to replace him with? I think Whitfield knows that and is exploiting it to the fullest.

After seeing the last couple of years of worth of this team, the most damaging statement to fuck up the team came from Tiki when he stated the Giants were outcoached. I am glad he is leaving...the veterans have been more damaging to this team then the rookies have...

  11. yes

Thats interesting even though he would have done what Fassel never accomplished (or what wasn't accomplished in the last 16 years), back to back playoff appearances. Now again this is all based on whether they win on Saturday??...and make the playoffs...

I am curious why do you think he deserves to be fired after that? For the record, the Giants will not fire Coughlin if they make the playoffs this year.

  12. That fat black man doesn't know what he's talking about. The crowd was up for every defensive series, every third down. It would help if the defense would make a stop. If the defense really needs the fans that much then they suck worse than it appears. We can't play the game for those lousy fuckwads. Low life pieces of shit. Fuck that fat black man. I fucking can't stand that these fuck faces point their filthy fucking fingers at everyone except the fucking mirror. If they looked at the fucking thing they would realize that they fucking suck at playing football. It's not the coaching it's the fucking execution. You can't coach after a fumble, that's execution. You can't coach the defense fucking watching the goddamn motherfucking plays unfold in front of their eyes and not one of them makes the fucking play. Even though I see the fucking blitz coming, I can't whisper to Eli, he he's coming off the FUCKING RIGHT SIDE YOU FUCKING DIPSHIT GOOBER! Or the ever popular HEY ASSHOLES, THEY'RE GOING TO RUN ON THRID AND TWO FROM THE 28 YOU FUCKING NIMRODS. Run defense called my ass, if it was called then they fucking suck worse then imagined before. Fucking degenerates. Shut your fucking dumb mouths and play the fucking game before you go pointing fingers at us. I couldn't fucking cheer any louder. How about you stop holding people you fat fucking black man.

    I FUCKING agree! :TU:

  13. well to lose like we have the last 3 games...I believe its cause the team is tired...8 games in 13 nights isn't easy for any team...and moron Renney should have played the kids more....

Psst...Hey Tom did ya forget the team is supposed to be rebuilding? How about you let em play instead of wasting roster spots on guys like Bozo?

  14. For Simms I don't think 'follow thru' or Bad Mechanics being Simms' problem. The Giants in 1979-1981 flat out sucked offensively! Simms had NO ONE to really throw to and no protection in his early years. Simms was getting killed...hence the reason why Scott brunner got a chance to be a starting QB. And when Parcells came to the forefront, Simms had zero room to suck. Parcells got on that dudes ass! I just don't see the same coming from TC toward Eli. It's like they treat Eli with kid gloves.

A few thoughts on this topic...

I think Eli has excellent arm strength and is surprisingly very accurate on long bombs...that long completion to Plas was a perfect pass...not underthrown like usual...in stride. After reading some articles and watching him play I really think its his mechanics and that comes down to coaching. I am not sure what Coughlin thought when he took this job and inserted Eli in the middle of the season (probably the same thing that everyone thought he was a Peyton) but he made mistake...he didn't coach him well or I should say Gilbride hasn't and still isn't.

Mike and the Mad Dog bring up a good point...when they said the core of the Giants is bad. The personality and the culture is bad...Remember when they were the youngest team in the NFL back then with a promising future and I am going all the way to the 97 year?? The Fassel personality still hasn't left this team, its there still...very strange team. They need a new identity...not the dominant personalities of Tiki and Strahan et al...Tiki retiring could be one of the better things to happen to the Giants next year. One less loud mouth in the team...

How come the other teams' running backs/TE/DT don't do this...?? or is it the NYC media coverage, etc? You see Alge Crumpler mouth of at his coach after a 9-7 season last year? How about Rudi Johnson? Tomlinson? Larry Johnson in KC? Why do these assholes think they can do that? They haven't won anything...stfu and play!

Couglin is a good coach for the most part but has had very poor (weak would better) supporting cast/assistant coaches and I've said that from the start...if they don't make the playoffs he might be pressured to change his coaches and I welcome that.
