When you look at all the contributors from the guys drafted the last couple of years, you have to be stoked about the guys brought in with this draft class. With the success we've had in drafting, this team is going to continue to contend for the forseeable future. Makes me feel kind of silly for ever questioning Reese on his picks... like I did with the Bomar pick. Even though most of us are still puzzled as to why we can't get a young stud kicker ever!

It just seems to be their philosophy to never get a rookie kicker.

With how low risk drafting a kicker is, definitely... And the fact that you never have to say "well, they can play at the college level, but can they play at the NFL level?" Kicking is kicking. Just find us a guy with a strong leg, and accuracy to go with it. Following our off-season, and draft, I don't think it'd be a stretch to feel that Kicker is our weakest position.

  2. Good.. and Ike was pretty good.. and we had who for a QB?

Times are different now.. we're an elite team.. we're missing a #1 WR.. aside from that everything else is patch up. We got Nicks and there's still a slim possibility of getting either Boldin or Edwards.

We had... Dave Brown and Danny Kanell haha. We went 7-0-1 in the division that year.. Still had the Cards to play.. and we tied 7-7 to the Redskins.. Was the 1st year under Fassel, and we lost to the Vikings 23-22 in the Wildcard game.. drats.

  3. When was the last time we drafted a WR in the first round? Besides, I think this whole "learning the system" is a bit overstretched. It maybe a little more time consuming for a QB.. then maybe a RB or OT.. but for a WR, I'd day it's much shorter. How hard could it be learn a couple of plays etc?

Ike Hilliard with the 7th pick in 1997!

  4. I bet the Broncos wish they had never given up on Hixon either. Granted he was fucked up mentally after the Buffalo game, but in hindsight if they could have gotten him over it.

Even more proof that Denver doesn't give a shit about their players. Once Everett made that shocking, unexpected recovery, Hixon turned it all around. It pissed me off when we had RW McQuartnuts returning punts during the playoffs of our Superbowl run.. Especially during the Green Bay game! What a nightmare he was!!

  5. EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- If Justin Tuck had concerns about Osi Umenyiora coming back from knee surgery, they ended the first day the two entered the weight room for the New York Giants' voluntary offseason program.

Umenyiora promptly declared he was the stronger man.

Tuck laughs telling the story, knowing that's how the defensive linemen push themselves, by challenging each other.

When asked who really was stronger, Tuck admitted it was Umenyiora, at least for now.

"He calls himself the king right now, and me the prince," Tuck said Tuesday after the Giants held another voluntary practice at Giants Stadium. "But he has had six months of training and I had six months of being beat up."

Looking at Umenyiora, there is no doubt that he's happy to be back at work.

The defensive end tore the lateral meniscus in his left knee in a preseason game against the Jets, sidelining him for the year. He said Tuesday his knee is at 99 percent and he will be ready for the start of training camp in July.

Surprisingly, Umenyiora said the injury was not something new. It had been bothering him for two years and finally gave out in the exhibition game in August.

"I haven't been in a situation like that my whole life," Umenyiora said. "To see the way it unfolded and the pain and rehabilitation process, how grueling and how hard it was, I think that added an extra motivation [for this season]."

The 27-year-old, who earned Pro Bowl berths in 2005 and '07, said the Giants didn't take any chances with his injury.

Doctors could have "burned" out the torn cartilage, giving Umenyiora the chance to play again later in the season. However, that could have shortened his career substantially.

"That shows you what type of organization the Giants are," Umenyiora said. "If they would've said I should do that, I would've actually thought about it, like maybe I can go out there and help them. But it wasn't even a part of the discussion. They were like 'Fix it. Get it over with and come back next year.'"

Umenyiora said his recovery went so well that his knee was at about 80 to 85 percent late in the season and he would have considered returning had the Giants not put him on injured reserve.

Now, Umenyiora is focusing on the coming season.

"I haven't put on pads or nothing yet, but I've been out there doing the exact same things everybody else has been doing with no problems," Umenyiora said. "As long as I'm able to do that, then I think it's where it needs to be."

The only obstacle in his recovery is getting back on the field, which he said is more a mental thing.

After his injury and surgery, Umenyiora stayed away from the team, saying it would have bothered him if he remained. He added that it was tough watching, noting the Giants' loss to the Eagles in the playoffs was hard to accept.

"It was very frustrating for me," he said. "I wasn't able to help the team. I was able to call them and give them support, but that was the extent of my help. To see the way it ended, it was very frustrating. It was a team they should have beat and would have beaten if everything was in order, and it wasn't. We'll reload next year and go at them."

With the signing of defensive end Chris Canty and tackle Rocky Bernard and the return of Umenyiora, the Giants are deep on the defensive line. They also have Tuck, Mathias Kiwanuka, Fred Robbins, Barry Cofield and Jay Alford.

Umenyiora doesn't mind splitting time as long as he can get into a rhythm when he's on the field.

"We still have to play," Umenyiora said. "Everything looks real good on paper, but we still have to go out and perform."

  6. something has to be done here

I do not understand why we are not bringing in Harrison, and Holt for a look

Because they're both aged. The Giants build for the future, not so much for the next year, and next year only.. There's a reason both of their teams let them go.. Not worth the money anymore. But they both had solid careers.

  7. your friends on crack. if CC was the seconds best in the texans secondary thats like being the second smarts in the slow class like me. i do follow the texans . david carr was the man and still is. futhor pointless info is my old handle was Carr8

I feel as if my IQ just dropped 10 points after reading this.

  8. As much as I feel Plax under-performed, or we just plainly didn't get the ball to him enough.. Yes, I'd want him back. But at this point, I'd accept TJ with open arms. He absolutely tore us and the Eagles up. 12 catches in each game, for 146 and 149 yards. But like a few others, I question how much of that was due to having Ocho-Stinko on the other side of the field.

  9. does the regular season seem toooo damn far away? Today is March 1st, and we now have like 6 months before it starts.. ahh, Wish it started next week

Must find a way to be patient.. Good thing baseball's regular season is right around the corner

  10. I am thinking we sign all of the oldest players out there and then the Giants can at least draw a senior citizen compenstaion package from the NFL and social security benefits from the government....what does everybody think?

I think the Patriots already beat us it. They've been doing it for years.

  11. I would not want Edwards...I think they are fine with receivers, unless a Boldin is available or Plax comes back which I doubt. But hey that's me.

Were we watching a different Giants team than each other? We were not fine with our WRs after losing Plax. Without Plax, Manning had 3 TDs and 5 INTs in the last 6 games(Loss to Eagles in Playoffs included). With Plax, Manning threw 18 TDs and only 7 INTs in the first 12 games.

We need a big Go-To wide receiver.

  12. Yes he was....Patriots got lucky on him and everyone knows it. If everyone knew he was going to be this good, he would have went in round 1

Well of course.. It's all about getting lucky with those late picks.. We've gotten lucky in recent years, as well. Not HoF QB lucky, but still lucky.

  13. Picking names is after round 1 is crazy, especially with all the movement.

    Round 1: LB

    Round 2: DL or OL

    Round 2: DL or OL

    Round 3: WR or Secondary

    Round 4: RB/TE

    Round 5: who cares

    Round 5: who cares

    Round 6: hot dog vendor

    Round 7: shoe shine boy

Tom Brady is one successful hot dog vendor.
