PROBABLE PITCHERS

Tuesday, October 3 Yankee Stadium | 8:00 PM ET

Nate Robertson, LHP @ Chien-Ming Wang, RHP

Scouting Report:

The only Tigers starter without a winning record this season was actually Detroit's strongest starter over the home stretch. Until last Wednesday's loss to the Blue Jays, he had thrown at least six innings with two runs or less allowed in six of his previous seven outings. Yet he won just twice over that stretch in large part due to lack of run support. One of those was a 2-0 loss at Yankee Stadium August 30, when a Craig Wilson homer and a Jason Giambi sacrifice fly proved to be his downfall. Like that game, he'll be opposing Chien-Ming Wang.

Wang emerged as the Yankees' ace this season, tying Minnesota's Johan Santana for the Major League lead with 19 victories. Opposing hitters have described Wang's trademark sinker as being like a bowling ball, as the mid-90s pitch drops more than a foot as it crosses the plate. The right-hander has had great success pitching in the Bronx this season, going 11-3 with a 3.03 ERA in 17 starts at Yankee Stadium. In his one postseason start last fall, Wang allowed four runs -- one earned -- over 6 2/3 innings in the Yankees' Game 2 loss to the Angels.

Wednesday, October 4 Yankee Stadium | 8:00 PM ET

Justin Verlander, RHP @ Mike Mussina, RHP

Scouting Report:

Verlander has been the X-factor in Detroit's rotation all year. Now, manager Jim Leyland is counting on the 23-year-old after skipping his last turn through the rotation to rest him for the playoffs. He struggled over his last three starts, exiting after five innings or less each time with what the Tigers believe was general fatigue, but he has pitched well against Oakland three times already this season.

Mussina was the Yankees' hottest pitcher during the first four months of the season, opening the year 13-3. A minor groin injury derailed his quest for a 20-win season, but now he takes the mound looking to take the first step toward the first World Series ring of his career. Mussina, who went 8-2 with a 3.30 ERA in 15 starts at home this year, is 7-7 in his postseason career with a 3.30 ERA. In nine ALDS starts, Mussina is 4-3 with a 3.38 ERA.

We played the Tigers 7 times during the season. We beat them 5 times. Each of the 2 losses to them were games in which we blew ninth inning leads when Mo wasn't available to pitch. Farns blew a save against them in June and Proctor the same about a month ago. They rank 9th in the AL in runs scored, and all of our starters...even the shakey ones...pitched well against them this season. They're 3 games under .500 since the Allstar break. Verlander's second half ERA is 4.54, which includes a 5.82 mark in August and September. Plus I think he's fatigued or hurt much more than they're letting on. They just got swept by the Royals with a shot at clinching their division. If we lose a series to this team it will be a fucking disgrace.

We decided to keep it in their respect forums.

Then why dont you add a fucking Tigers forum too. <_< That way you mods can split the thread and we can just go back and forth to the sections to read it.

Gimme a break Nem, theres maybe 12 posters that come on here regulary. This board was created as a replacement for the CE. Stop moving threads for christ sakes. It's pointless.
