Guest MontyPython
Col Coughlin says that Rob Johnson will see action in the 2nd and 3rd qtrs vs the KC Chiefs. Col said his arm strength is not like it used to be, but his reactions are. It will be interesting to see how he performs do you folks think he will be # 2 before the end of camp???? Nesta
No. I don't think he'll be #3 either. In fact, I don't think he'll be in the NFL.

Virginia Giant
I would not be surprised if Johnson is a back up for us, from what i hear lorenzen has played himself into a backup role, and TC like Johnson. Tim might be the odd man out, not saying it's right, but we could have J Load and Rob johnson backing up Eli. God help us.
Guest MontyPython
....for those with short memories, Johnson as a rookie 3rd stringer in 1997 passed the Jags to a 40-14 win over our NYG's. something like 23-30 280 yrds and 3 TDS. I know its 2006 not 1997, but his chance of being a 2nd/3rd line qb gives me security that we have not had in a long time.

It would be nice if he still had that ability, but he hasn't shown it since '99. From everything I've read this year, his arm is weak and he has a lot of hesitation. We'll see how he is in a game though.
Guest MontyPython
Even though he looks like the worst QB on the roster? looks can be deceiving - has he played yet? a calm cool headed Veteran at Qb can be the elixer to many ill's that can overcome a team if the starter goes down. we shall see. His head has not lost its velocity, thats for sure!

Guest MontyPython
Rob Johnson looks like Tweak out there. Calm is one thing he isn't. Johnson looked poised and avoided the rush pretty well for a rusty qb. put him with the starters and getting protection? no fear with him at the controls. obviously you forget that the starting line was not in front of him, but why would that matter to you? I like to see our QBs stand tall in the pocket and remain calm. Edit: I also remember Jared Lorenzen playing with the 3rd string offensive line and having no troubles. Nesta
He looked better than I was expecting as far as quickness. I still don't think he makes the team though.
Ditto
He looked better than I was expecting as far as quickness. I still don't think he makes the team though. Let's face it. You don't want Hasselbeck running the team if Eli goes down, and Lorenzen is too inexperienced. IMO,Johnson is an average but experienced QB who won't work agains us. I thought he played well considering the time he had to practice with the team.

I think Hasselback is gone because he has the weakess Arm Strength out of a 4 QB's. And I know TC hate weak arm QBs.

I feel comfortable with Hasselbeck now that he has a year with the offense. Lorenzen is progressing so quickly it would be a shame to let him go. Hasselbeck's arm is weak, but so is Johnson's now. Storm
I don't know. Johnson's throws looked like it had some zip on it. To be fair, he didn't have any real opportunity to put any arm behind any of his throws.
Guest MontyPython
I hope Col Coughlin starts either Hasselbeck, Johnson or Lorenzen...in the final pre-season game. I would think Eli is as ready as he ever will be, and it would be nice to see one of the 3 work with the first team for a qtr. imo Johnson still has an outside shot at making the team. Nesta
He's gone. Now let's see if he can get a job in the same league that won't give Kerry Collins a job.
