Not bad for a bust

Schoen really did get some good picks this draft.

It's the only reason why I think Mara might keep him around.

I just hope they don't fire Daboll, keep Schoen, let him draft a QB, fire Schoen and the HC in acoupke years and then the new GM/HC are stuck with a QB they don't want.

We are slowly turning into the Bears.

Yep that is management all over.  I often stepped in when things were all fucked up and the places were filled with legacy hires.  You have to be a great tactician/clinician and figure who and what works.... also who and what needs to be jettisoned.  It is not easy to do and requires a delicate and aware hand.

man Phillips has been good, but 2nd in the league good? For a corner who doesn't get his hands on the ball? I question that.

Yeah I thought that too. No picks, 80% completion vs him, 109 passer rating allowed, zero passes defensed, and 10 missed tackles? Not buying it, though he has looked better than I thought he would.

How the fuck does the above translate to No.2???

I think you have to take PFF scores with a grain of salt. These are the same guys that graded Ereck Flowers as "very good" in 3 of his 4 years with the team.

In one of those years he led the league in most pressures allowed by a LT.

Should we just ignore this CB's terrible coverage stats?

He is a great tackler. I wonder if he'd be better off at Safety.

you could also be happy that one of our players, a rookie, is playing good enough by someone’s metrics(who gets posted here often), to be listed as the number 2 cb.

It didn't fit any narrative therefore the stats are garbage and not well thought out.

Now if the stats showed his has the worst DB in the NFL you know people would use em lol

So speculating here, but perhaps Phillips gets good grades a) Because he's excellent against the run, and b) In coverage, he generally keeps plays in front of him and hasn't been getting beat over the top/on long passes.

But the dink and dunk game against CB's doesn't seem to factor into the rating

He's not going to give up the big passing plays, but passers can dink and dunk against him pretty consistently for 7-9 yards a completion (i.e. 30 for 38, 287 yards and 1TD against him).

CB/DB also has to be tough for some sources like PFF to grade because credit should be given if you're a CB who's NOT getting targeted or targeted often by the QB, because your coverage is so good that the QB won't throw in your direction.

I don’t think that’s wild speculation, he gets lots of opportunities to make tackles, and by virtue of playing so close to scrimmage he can’t help but have tight coverage.

that’s the real key to evaluating CBs right there in your last paragraph. They throw at Phillips, a lot. A better method penalizes for that, but PFF rewards it if the player tackles well.

I’m so desperate to get out of this era that I’m going completely against my instincts and would welcome taking a shot on sanders—I don’t care if he brings Deion and Lavar Ball as co-parents.  Would love if he stopped the watch thing though, that shit is so cringe.

Time for us to move on beyond model citizen Boy Scout Opie types.  This an entertainment/gladiator business and its time to embrace this.  Let us move on.

I hear you man....ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED.  I think we need to be on a conveyor belt... use these guys for 3-5 years then give them the talk that they will be jettisoned unless they go along to get along.  This is the City... not Indianapolis. :giants::laugh:
