We’ve sucked for a long time, and only this year we may be able to pick one of the top two guys.

Why assume we will just be in position to get who we want next year?

Yeah we really shouldn’t assume that.  As we’re finding out it’s almost as hard to be the worst team in the league as it  is to be a good team.

When's the last time a team has traded for three firsts in one draft?

lol

We should just trade our fifth round pick down until we have eight first round picks in 2034 with the compounding trade chart.

Stall the clock and draft a whole new team then.

I mean it's an aggressive strategy sure but what happens in 2026 when the team you want to trade up for says they want more than those three firsts?

And then what?

You've wasted all of your firsts/seconds/thirds for the next couple of season on two high end QB picks and some bridge QBs while the rest of the team suffers.

49ers would be there today if it wasn't for Purdy.

Yeah purdy working out was the key, like goff turning out to be more than just a distressed asset that the lions were willing to take on in exchange for better picks.  Sometimes this shit just falls into your lap while you’re planning something else

I’m not even assuming we’re in position to get who we want this year. For all I know, this draft is another Kenny Pickett-Malik Willis QB class.

Malik Willis looked good filling in for Green Bay this year.

we would be lucky to have Willis.

2020.

Some team called the New York Giants also did it the year before.

Your article lists teams that have has 3 first round picks in a draft.

Blue asked when was the last time a team “has traded for” 3 first round picks in the same draft.

I agree, that’s partly what goes into my thinking about trading back for pick volume, then drafting the toolsy prospect that needs to learn from the practice field.

The more people you get the better the likelihood that you will "discover" fire than by choosing just the best options at the time.  I think a mixture of both would be in their interests.  Get the draft picks that are out there with your choices also load up on the free agents, walk on candidates and projects.  Something will come forward from this brew.  Above all have mixed practices with other teams and avoid at all costs with getting high on your own supply.  This means having a good to great GM able to spot, identify and pay for talent... while 86'ing the Mara family sycophants.  It is a tall order but it has been done before.  The past ten years the Giants have tried to do piecemeal garbage that has landed them we they are.  Clean house and start from zero and move from there.

we can draft the toolsy prospect any year.  The year we can finally draft the best qb in the draft, we should do it.

im glad we got Eli instead of drafting the toolsy prospect.

Is there another way to get them?

If so I think that's what the Giants should do. Getting extra 1st round picks for free sounds like a good recipe for success.

But that still doesn’t answer the question he asked you.

Yeah I mean we should just draft a QB every year in the third round and hope one develops.

Or just pick one of the best QBs in the draft if we can and then not waste the draft capitol.

But we shouldn’t just draft the best QB if the best QB doesn’t belong in the first round… that’s the process that got us Daniel Jones.

I have Ward’s game on right now. Sanders plays later tonight.

Ward has beautiful touch on the ball and a quick release. Iowa State isn’t providing any pressure.

I think not quite every year, but yes, swing for the fences on those guys, even when you have ‘the guy’. That’s probably a good process.

I think it’s likely better to fill the roster with acceptably competent veterans, then draft for potential.

These are my thoughts exactly. If we have the #1 overall pick, I want Peyton Manning, not Alex Smith. Smith was a nice player and you could win with him, but he's not going to Canton.

I wish I could watch either of these two guys today... give us your full scouting report, CD.

Jones wasn't rated a first round QB.

Ward and Sanders are.

So we let the opportunity pass to draft a QB worth a first round pick, in hopes that we can draft a QB sometime later who is a higher rated first round pick?

Also who's the last Peyton Manning QB?

Burrow I guess.

Before him? Luck?

8 years between them, I guess that could be Schoens pitch to Mara "I know we tanked but we tanked at the wrong time, so you just gotta give me 5 or 6 years of #1 picks in hopes getting the right guy"

I guess I'll answer your question with a question, BiC. What elite traits do you see in either of these two QBs to be willing to spend the most precious commodity in all of sports? I see some very good ones, but not many elite ones.

By whom? I’m a bit wary of TV ratings driven analysts like Kiper, McShay, etc.; those guys seem especially high on Sanders.

Haven’t seen much from more sensible sources yet, so I’m trying hard not to personally wish cast one of these guys into a role they’re not going to be able to fill. (Like Gettleman did with Jones).

Well I flipped to the Bengals Broncos game - big game around here.

Ward looked like what I’d want from a high 1st round pick while I was watching though. He wasn’t challenged, but at least he made it look easy,

Has anyone out there said that Ward and Sanders aren’t first rounders?

or just scared giants fans?

The only thing I read is they "may have been" QBs #3-4 off the board last year.

Last I checked six were taken and only two have looked they deserved the pick.

Which has more to do with their supporting staff.
