Whelp, it's time to talk quarterbacks.

There is a zero percent chance we go into next season with anyone on this roster as a starter. What do you all think the the team should do?

I haven't done too deep of a dive yet, but I don't love this QB class. My pie-in-the-sky dream is to have the number one pick and trade it to the Cowboys... who then select  Shadeur Sanders, with Deion coming in to coach. I'm thinking three firsts, a second, and a third would  do it.

Meanwhile, back on planet earth... I don't want Sanders, but Ward to me also looks merely capable, not special. I don't think either is worth a top 5 pick. My ideal situation would be to trade back to mid-first and grab someone there or in the early 2nd; maybe Garrett Nussmier if he declares or Jalen Milroe. Nussmier I think can be very good, but Milroe is much more of a develpomental guy (but I love his skill set).

In the meantime... I've had enough of the "backup as a mentor" bullshit the Giants have pulled the last few decades. The backup should be a competitor for the starting job, not a fucking coach... let the #3 guy be a savvy vet and the #2 guy be a capable-to-good starter. I'd like to see a Sam Darnold, Joe Flacco, or to a lesser degree Josh Dobbs or Gardner Minshew come in while our developmental QB actually develops. I don't want Colt McCoy or Mike Glennon coming off the bench or God forbid starting, and I don't want to just anoint some rookie as the starter on day 1.

I might also be talked into a younger guy that didn't work out somewhere else being on the team, whether by trade or just signing. Maybe take a chance on a Justin Fields or a Mac Jones (though I'd hate to see another Jones behind center anytime soon)

What're you guys all thinking?

I think the only possibility for me is Ward. The others are DJ level prospects, at best.

He has a little more confidence than he does accuracy at this stage, but he has enough arm and good enough measurables across the board.

Milroe has the best physical traits, but can’t read the field from what I’ve seen.

Thought it might be Beck for a minute, but he’s regressed.

Allar may be a top prospect in 26. Not ready now.

Ewers is a good college QB. Boring Colt McCoy.

Sanders comes with a whole lot of bullshit, and I don’t think he’s anywhere near good enough to justify it.

Sanders isnt a top 10 expected pick by mistake.  He can keep his eyes downfield while avoiding the rush or on bootlegs.  He is accurate too.  But I don't want the circus either.

End of day, I may just let Nabors make the pick based on what he sees and likes.

I don’t have strong feelings about any of them. Not really interested in the Sanders sideshow, but I’m warming to it if it’s just Shaduer, and the father can stay in his lane. I don’t think he’s a sparkling prospect, but I guess he’s as good as any of the others in this class.

Ward looks exciting. Have not watched much Alabama. Dart interests me. Allar I’ve watched a lot. Talent is there but he’s held back by the coaching staff/offense. We haven’t really seen what he is.

But to answer the question. Gotta draft one high, and gotta get the guy they want, whatever it takes.

If Daboll and Shoen are back, whoever they draft is starting day 1. The leash will be short even with a rookie.

If there is a new GM and coach, they’ll bring in a bridge like Minshew or hell, Derek Carr.

I still feel we should do whatever we can to get Arch Manning in 26. Just fuck around with a bridge next season as well and build the roster. That is IF by around draft time we dont like any of the top QB prospects because we dont want to unnecessarily get stuck with another Daniel/Mac Jones/ and yeah ill say it - Trevor Lawrence...

It’s also incredibly early, look at mock drafts last year around this time.   Wildly different from what happened.

this is still earlier than when mock drafts had Damontre Moore going 3rd overall.

Yeah, at this point last year, It was Maye and another QB who were only considered first rounders. A lot can change. Just no more senior bowl MVP's.

I'm on board with Sanders, but I'm assuming he'll be gone to the Raiders by the time we pick.

I like your thinking on the QB situation overall.  I just don't want to despair on this QB class so much.  There are always gems present and I think a big part our problem is to over analyze what is available.  Buy into the old philosophy of taking the best capable athelete.  Our current salvation may not lie in the QB draft, but rather a capable QB free agent.

Raiders gonna trade up to 1 for him?

I think they end up like 3-14 with a worse record than us at 4-13.

I am for Ward and Sanders right now.  I am not afraid of the circus that may come with Sanders.  We in the Giants trough have been too afraid of Circus since the LT days and i think it has hurt us in some respects.  Parcells just let LT play not because he was/is a lousy human being IMHO, but that he was the best or second best NFL guy ever to play.  What have all of the recent "good" guys have gotten us?  I don't write this as an indictment just that we have to view what do these cats do on the field and nothing else really.  The NY media will be the NY media and go from there.

I am not looking forward to the sanders family stuff but if he can play i think it’s worth it.  I’d rather spend 10 years being a playoff contender and dealing with Odell/shockey-level immaturity nonsense than the shit we just went through over the last 10+ years

Boy are you guys gonna be pissed when they don't take a QB.

This^^^ for sure.  We want Boy Scout too much.  I could care less.  We are perfectly willing to deal with character issues with the Yankees, Mets, Knicks or Mets... yet the Giants must be Boy Scouts.  I could not care less at this point in my life.  I just want the Giants to win games... there are no style points for being good citizens.

Cam Ward all the way.

How's he not a top 5 guy? He'll need a year before he acclimates to the speed and schemes of the NFL, so we may need a FA QB to bridge us to him for a year (Jacoby Brisset), but he'll be good. Give him a couple years and he'll develop into a CJ Stroud.

I watch his film and see a guy that would have been the #5 or #6 QB drafted last year. I put him slightly behind Penis but maybe ahead of or on par with McCarthy. He just looks like "average to good NFL starter" to me.

I got him as #4 if we’re stacking with 2024. I like him about on a level with Penix.

Sanders has been in the spotlight since him and his father went to Colorado. He'll be fine. I'll take him if we are ahead of the Raiders.
