The Meltdown...

Virginia Giant

Recommended Posts

Nabers finished with 6 catches on 9 targets for 64 yards -- all in the second half. He was left unsure what happened in that disastrous first half and why he didn't get the ball.

"I don't know," Nabers said. "Talk to [Giants coach Brian] Daboll about that."

It really does seem like the media is going to attack the Giants no matter what they do.  They did Jones a solid by releasing him, but the media is making it like its this big slight.

They didn't draft a QB - media bashes them.

They sit Jones - media bashes them.

Start Devito instead of Locke and the media bashes them, like it wasn't pretty clear Locke wasn't the guy and they have to find out for sure what Devito is - is he a backup or isn't he?

They didn't sign Saquon - bashed, if they would have signed Saquon, bashed.

It does seem clear this regime has no control and does not appear to be respected by the players, so they probably deserve it - I just wish it was consistent.

And what the fuck is the "Tommy Cutlets" celebration from Mayfield?  You're trolling a 3rd string QB on a 2-8 team when you''ve only barely ensured yourself a starting job next season after bouncing around the league for years with the bust title following you around, AND you have a losing record?   Get a grip dude.

Mayfield is a good QB he's Tampa's QB for the next few years.

I think it's the fact he said Jones was a bum and the NY Media and fans went after him.

Honestly I thought it was funny since Cutlets himself and Jones are both bums.

Mayfield aside.

Im still 100%  convinced that Daboll and Schoen are not here next year.

We're gonna tank, get a top 3 pick and Mara hires a new GM/HC combo who select the next QB and start rebuild #4? At this point.

Team is still void of a lot of talent and guys horribly underperforming.

Going to be another roster turnover in two years.

Yeah I think it's a clean sweep and it should be. I knew we were in trouble with Schoen after that first draft. Dude doesn't know what he's doing

Pile it on - make it even more embarrassing. One thing is clear - Daboll has lost the locker room. Whether Schoen and Daboll are a package deal or not remains to be seen but I think Daboll is on a much hotter seat that Schoen right now.

Oh and in the meantime - Saquon had more rushing yards than the entire Giants offense and leads the league

Xavier McKinney - had another INT and leads the league in INTs

Jordan Love is having a fantastic season

Saquon set some record with his performance last night.

Remember when Schoen said he wasn't paying a 40 million dollar QB to hand off to a 14 million dollar RB?

lol

McKinney leads the NFL and the Giants set a modern day record for most games without an Int at 10.

Mara is about to fire everyone before the season is over.

It’s starting to get the Joe Judge era feel where it seems like everything is being mishandled, even if they aren’t technically the wrong decisions.

Hard to survive when former players (Saquon), current team captains (Dex), current respected team vets (Slayton), star vets who joined the team this year (Burns), and rookies (Nabors) are all in some form or another throwing shade / questioning the coach / GM / administration.

Coupled with league perception that the Giants fucked up not signing Saquon (still the right decision) when the owner was already pissed his orders to resign him weren’t followed AND Saquon is showing the league that the Giants are the Giants and he’s Saquon fucking Barkley.

And somehow Daniel Jones steps over the GM to talk directly to ownership about his release and has positioned himself to go from league joke to “oh poor Daniel got benched and released” in the span of a week.

I still think Shoen could be the right GM. Daboll has rubbed me wrong for a couple years. I think he’s very publicly thrown players under the bus and shifted blame and those chickens are coming home to roost. But I also think they’re a package deal. I’m not sure Shoen has it in him to fire Daboll.

It definitely is. So sick of that whole story line. But I just think it’s classic Baker Mayfield to taunt a third string QB on a really shitty team when he’s not exactly fresh off that first overall selection and the new league sensation. Even though he’s having a great year and I was happy for him until that moment.

If I am the owner...I am putting a stop to this now.  All coach, all player meeting...2 or 3 days some place far away from the facilities...in lieu of practice...after the Cowboys game Thursday.  Clearly practice is not translating to game anyway.

Give each player his chance to speak to the coach, to the other players.  Give each coach a chance to speak in response...but let the players drive the conversation.

Make it abundantly clear and stick to it, that nothing discussed will be held against anyone.

Try to answer question of what is wrong and how each player could be better served to contribute.  If you have a beef with a teammate's effort, call him out and bring the tape.

Provide great food to all.

Make it open to media, but entertain no questions.

Julian Love having quite the season too.

That Joe Schoen can really evaluate talent, huh?

Giants-Roster.png

This was DG’s roster in his last season as GM. I think there’s a good case to be made that the current roster is actually worse than what Gettleman left, or is at least a push.  4 of the 5 starters on the o-line are definitely better than Gettlemen’s guys (though Hernandez and Bredeson are both having good seasons and careers now that they’re somewhere else).  Engram was a better TE than what we have on the roster.  Saquon is a phenomenal talent that we let walk.

Leonard WIlliams and Austin Johnson were better than whatever we’re trotting out on the interior DL (Lawrence notwithstanding).  The Gettleman linebackers were definitely worse, but the defensive backfield in the Gettleman era was downright good… that whole group is a significant upgrade to what we have now.

Remember, this was a roster that we thought was SO BAD that we had no choice but to get rid of Gettleman.  Is the new roster significantly better? We're in year 3... if the answer is "no," I think it's time to try something else.  Schoen hasn't done enough IMO to earn the right to draft the next QB for the team.

I just love this front office. For instance, just look at who they jettisoned, versus bringing in guys/retaining guys like Singletary, Drew Lock, Nick McCloud for a total cap hit of $12M

- Saquon Barkley: Leads the league in Rushing Yards by far. Pro bowler for sure. ($3.8M cap hit)

- Xavier McKinney: Leads the league in INTs. Pro bowler ($7.8M cap hit)

- Ben Bredeson: Over 700 snaps, and hasn't given up a single sack this year.

Not saying keeping these guys would have magically made us competitive, but it's just another example of the incompetence of this organization.

I was told you don't pay these positions though.

And that's my thing too, it's not like we'd be a playoff team with these guys but atleast we'd have a better team than what we have now.

When you get rid of talent and don't replace it with talent then what's the point?

Schoen has been an awful judge of talent up to this point.

Also the idea that Schoen should be able to "pick his QB" is nonsense.

He picked his QB, he picked Jones and gave him 140 million.

Could of let him walk or have him a one year prove it deal.

Wouldn't be the first or last time a teams let a QB walk after a playoff win.
