Herc
Doubt it. He didn’t invest much capital in running backs over his last ten years or so except maybe Sony michel I guess

TaylorBanksCarsonVanPelt
They really wanted to franchise DJ and give Saquon the biggish contract. DJ's agent gummed up the works and wanted more... Giants coming off a fake playoff win against the Vikings and Schoen caves to Mara by keeping the good soldier DJ happy with a balloon contract while tagging Saquon. This does not seem to have gone off well in the locker room either. RB's on mediocre or bad teams can suck up a lot of cash... but the genesis of the Giants problems lies with giving away far too much money to a QB2 to be a consistent QB1. If wishes were horses (Knights) the kingdom would never have been lost...

If wishes were horses (Knights) the kingdom would never have been lost... That's my thing. The whole argument of "signing Jones doesn't mean we had to let Barkley go" is moot. Signing a below average QB to a contract that eats up 20% of your teams cap, when that could be used to not only retain Barkley but still build the exact same team we have now (minus Jones) and have enough left over for another player or two of starting quality. We kept lesser talent, and let go of talent. This doesn't make teams better, unless you already have a very talented team. The Bills could jettison Diggs because they got a world class QB and one of the better RBs in the NFL. The Chiefs can trade Tyreek because they have Mahomes and Kelce. We can't let players like Barkley go because our QB is Jones.
mastershake
Signing lineman is NOT why we failed to retain Barkley. We had the money. We signed Devin Singletary for nearly same cap hit (granted, deferred salary on Barkley), plus scrubs like McCloud are a $3M cap hit. Then there we several restructures done later on, post free agency/draft. You could even argue that cutting Slayton to retain Barkley was an option ($5M in cap savings in that scenario). The money was there. The good decision making by the front office was not.

The money was there. The good decision making by the front office was not. Slayton is a waste of space and money on a bad team. He needs such a clean ball to catch his drops are killers for a struggling team. On a good team he would be the second or third WR who cleans up on scraps. For critical plays he would not see the ball more than 5% of the time. He is not a QBs friend in bailing them out. When you are a lousy team you have to emphasize team. They never should have drafted Saquon so high... and DJ should have been told on day one that you are here to back up Eli and we will look for the next generation of Eli. Can you live with that for five year... great... come in and be the next Jesse Palmer. Can't... we will dial up KC or Cleveland for a trade for you and another lineman, TE or second tier DB. No problem. Unfortunately the Giants lack a front office with power and a half owner in the younger Mara that is just as bad as the Broke Back owner or the Jests with that Drumpf loving owner. Iceman_NYG
For some reason, the Giants seem to drafting gentlemen and stellar character players OFF the field and not necessarily more capable players ON the field. For example Nabers - hes terrific but he also says and does some things that arent exactly kosher - but on the field his abilities are of no doubt. Maybe we need that more. Ill mention that convo Barkley had in the 4th qtr with the coach again - Im good! Im good! let the young guys eat. Ill be rooting for Barkley while hating on the Eagles for the rest of his career

Who was the best football player ever and sucked/sucks as a living breathing person. They got back to the playoffs, changed the game and won two Super Bowls with his bad character. Tired of good citizens. No one says we have to be the law less Broke Backs (Cowboys) up north... but we need to get to grips here. Are we trying to win football games or Image Awards. They better decide really quick.
