I’ve been desperately looking for a stat that shows wr average depth of routes run. Wondering if the giants only ran short routes or if it was normal and DJ was not looking past 4 yards.

espn analytics has it for 2023 in a specific article but can’t find it for this year.

I don’t have any comparative stats for it, but just eyeballing it based on a couple film review podcasts they definitely did not only run short routes.

general rule with Daboll’s offense, you’ve got an alert on one side of the field, and a three level read on the other, so there’s usually at least two receivers running a deep route on every passing play.

Definitely had some open receivers deep that Jones pumped at, but didn’t take the throw.

He is mega gun shy... and is too in love with misdirection.  Instead of pump faking just let it rip about half of the time.  Just having a completion percentage of a third to half will loosen up defenses.  It is far better to be possibly intercepted on you opponents 20 yard line as opposed to a pick 6.  Jesus this is so high school football.

Ironically, I think that pick six wasn’t on Jones. It was probably one of the few plays of the day that he did his part! The right tackle should have engaged the edge rusher, it’s a must on a quick throw like that. And if they drew it up that way, then it’s on the coach.

For sure... I was not referencing that pick six but pick sixes in general.  Quick throws and misdirection are not the strong suits of backup DJ and Daboll relies too much upon it.  Face it Daboll, DJ is not Josh Allen.

I'm hard pressed to think of what DJ's strong suit actually is. He takes fan heckling with grace? That's it. That's all I've got.

If I'm the coach and DJ's my QB, I'm probably drawing up a bunch of no-think, quick-throw stuff too. He can't read the defense, so what else can they do.

This feels crazy because I am not a 'put in the backup!' kind of guy at all. But put in the fucking backup. DJ is just not getting it; there's no improvement, he only gets worse, so at least put someone in the game who has the potential to maybe, at some point, 'get it'.

Yeah I agree he can't think it trough in a football sense at all.  Just heave it and run... that worked in college against the JV squad.  That is it.  That is why we saw with the backups last year that they went downtown and long.  Take a few shots and maybe you luck out.  This short yardage stuff does not work out so well.  Just run it and heave the ball at least once per offensive possession.  DJ just out right sucks.  This is so Joe Pisarcik for me... mid 1970s here we are.

Dude is cooked.

Just bite the bullet... go with a backup.... shop around for a Kerry Collin's substitute and draft a good prospect from a genuine NFL feeder football college/university that utilizes a pro set offenses.  No more gimmicks, wish bones or West Coast offenses that never work here.  They have intermittently tried the West Coast or modified West Coast offense in Giants land since the early 80's .  It never worked back then and won't work now.  Just Do it already.  Mr. Six Season from Duke will never be the answer here.  Whether he was ruined by not having a line or just plain sucked he is toast here, now and forever.

Gotta ride with him until the end of the year. He sucks.

Absolutely not. Jones gets hurt and we're on the hook for an extra 22 million guaranteed these next two seasons

If we're winless by week six, Mara has to fire the entire front office, bench Jones, and have a fire sale for the Kayvon Thibodeaus, Brian Burns', and Evan Neals of the roster. The next GM/coach is going to need draft capital as well as money and Schoen/Daboll ain't the answer.

I don't see Mara flipping the roster after rebuild #3 now.

Best bet is he fires Schoen and hires our assistant GM the one from the Eagles who convinced him he can fix the roster without another rebuild.

After another half assed rebuild, a couple HCs we will be going into 2029 with rebuild #5

I believe this is it... other than going all in for Belichick which is in the back of my mind.  Bring back the architect of the two Super Bowls in 1986 and 1990, as either a GM or GM/HC combo.

Not a single pass completed beyond 20 yards.

Against a awful secodary.

At least they took some shots.

and I thought one of the deep balls to Nabers in the first half (I think) was a good ball. It looked like Nabers slowed or hitched just a little premature and it was too long. The one where he had his hands on the db. It looked like he thought it was under thrown and was about to get into leaping position. He had the db beat and to me it looked like if he just kept full speed it hits him basically in stride.

Another troubling indicator there.

three of the four attempts over 20 were on the left sideline. And 3 of 5 (maybe 6) throws 10-20 deep were on the left sideline.

i didn’t watch close enough to notice if they were targeting a certain db. I’m sure most were to Nabers, maybe they took a shot when Washington was in man or it was clear Nabers would be in single coverage?  But that’s not a hard graphic to decipher.

I mean you’ve built an offense on speed. You could send Slayton and Hyatt deep half the time and see if one get open now and then.
