Sephiroth Posted August 1, 2024 Posted August 1, 2024 That roster is stacked. We should sign whatever corner they cut/waive before the season starts; their worst guy is better than whoever our CB2 ends up being. There's no way we're even going to look competitive against them this year.
gmenroc Posted August 1, 2024 Posted August 1, 2024 Generally agree but we beat em end of last year, no?

I think that was a mental/coaching thing as much as anything else. If that happened again it would be two miracles in a row. You look at the young players there and it's just amazing what they're doing. Bradberry loses a step but no worries, they've got Quinyon Mitchell and Kelee Ringo there. They lose a Hall of Fame center but former first rounder Landon Dickerson has been waiting in the wings. AJ Brown and DaVonta Smith have signed extensions. Brandon Graham is close to retirement but Jordan Davis and Jaelen Carter might be the best young DT tandem in the league this year. Meanwhile, we're over here asking if Evan Neal, Joe Isuzu, and Cordale Flop are even going to make the roster. The Eagles front office is just light years ahead of ours.
Sephiroth Posted August 1, 2024 Author Posted August 1, 2024 Also, I was a little concerned watching Joe Schoen on Hard Knocks. Schoen kept targeting positions instead of taking the best player at certain points in the draft. That's a recipe for failure and is probably what got us his three failed o-linemen a few years back. That first Schoen draft really needs to show something this year. To have 11 picks and whiff so badly and so consistently (I'd say only Thibodeaux and Robinson have become quality starters) is just horrible.

BlueInCanada Posted August 1, 2024 Posted August 1, 2024 12 years of failure and counting. Bad teams usually stay bad in the NFL. It takes a monumental shift of direction/culture starting at the ownership level to change that direction. Look at the Lions owner goes out and hires a tough faced, chaw chewing SOB at HC that the media ragged him about the first two years. And got a GM to pair with him. He let Campbell set the tone and culture of that team. Now they should be competing for the foreseeable future. Meanwhile Mara is listening to the likes of Gettleman and now Schoen. We'll see.
Sephiroth Posted August 1, 2024 Author Posted August 1, 2024 Also, since JMS has been out, the team has put Jon Runyan at center and signed Greg Van Roten, who also they tried at center today. Why the fuck did you bother signing Austin Schlottman as a backup center if you don't let him back up our center? EDIT: read another article saying Schlottman split 1st team reps which made me feel a little better.

This writ large.... winning teams win because people want to go there.... and they develop a culture of winning.... we had it during my lifetime from 1979-2012... when we won four Super Bowls and made numerous playoff appearances. Then we fell off post 2015 especially.
