Mets hope to keep momentum going against Phillies

NY Mets (39-23) at Philadelphia (33-30) 7:05 pm EDT

PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- Tom Glavine looks to continue his long-time success against the Philadelphia Phillies, when they open a three-game series Tuesday against the New York Mets.

Glavine (9-2, 3.06 ERA) goes for his 284th career victory, which would tie him with Hall of Famer Ferguson Jenkins and Tony Mullane for 26th place on the all-time list.

The lefthander is 25-16 with a 3.77 ERA in 56 career starts against the Phillies. However, he is just 1-5 against them since signing as a free agent with New York in 2003.

Attempting to extend a five-game winning streak, the Mets lead the National League East Division and are coming off a four-game sweep at Arizona, where they outscored the Diamondbacks, 37-9.

Carlos Beltran was named National League Player of the Week on Monday after recording 13 hits, 12 RBI and 26 total bases as the Mets won six of seven games on their recent West Coast road trip.

Ryan Madson (6-3, 5.17) gets the start for the Phillies, who return home after going 6-5 on an 11-game road swing.

Madson, a former setup man who is making the conversion to a starter, is 2-1 with a 1.61 ERA in 18 innings of relief work against New York. The Phillies have won all six of his last starts.

In his previous outing on Wednesday, Madson pitched 7 2/3 innings, giving up three runs and eight hits against Arizona.
