Lol so Peppers and Dexter Lawrence for Beckham. Thats the return on probably the second best WR in the league.

BJ Hill - run stopper and edge setter.

Tomlinson - run stopper and takes up a double team

Lawrence - run stopper

I mean who needs to run on the Giants when you can stand in the pocket for half a minute every snap.

we do have one more pick from the browns obj trade........ I think we may need a full back.....

Jeesh at least getting an exciting player at 17. Fuck it, that was your compensation for Beckham, you might as well. They essentially got a player who might, if hes lucky see 20-30 rotational snap, lmao.

Unless they bench Tomlinson and Dexters Lab is the new nose tackle.

Very well could be a possibility.

Tomlinson and Hill are the two big boys.

We needed a pass rusher specialist.

I don't know maybe they are going to get rid of Tomlinson.

Tomlinson has been underwhelming... but we have bigger issues... A pass rushing DE or OT.

Their role in the 3-4 is to eat up blockers to free up the OLBs to pass rush on pass downs.

That's not who ends in a 3-4 work tough, they have to be able to rush the passer, otherwise you can kick out guards and RBs to take on the LBs.

So two guards and 2 RBs again four linebackers? Defense wins this 90% of the time.

You dont suppose two high round picks and say, a low priced vet was sufficient for that? This team has too many holes for three rotational DTs who will play 20-30 snaps. DT is a bad pick there. They also could have had their choice of WR. Which is a glaring need unless youre Ok with two slot receivers and nothing else.

They're meant to take on double teams and generate push, not necessarily be edge rushers or penetrators.

None of these things our current crop of DTs/DEs do.

Odd.

And still not what you want from the ends in a 3-4.

Their job is to get the QB/RB to get off path or out of the pocket.

You're not doing either when you are being double teamed.

So we are bringing all four LBs every single snap?

Brilliant, why hasnt this worked before in the NFL?!?!??

I merely pointed out the ideal defensive play to counter the offensive scenario you mentioned.

We had a huge hole at the position, and I think he plays NT, the most important role in the 3-4.

So then Tomlinson and/or Hill arent any good? Again, youre talking about a dude who will play maybe a third of the game. They have zero defensive ends. They have tweener lbs who can rush off the edge but pretty much werent experiencing success last year at that endeavor.

Incorrect.

The NT:

When it comes to the pass, his duty is essentially the same regardless of where he lines up: push the pocket into the face of the quarterback. Make him afraid of smashing his thumb on the helmet of his offensive linemen. If the quarterback is afraid of smashing his thumb, he is more apt to hold on to the ball. Also more importantly, pushing the pocket blocks the QBs ability to step up into the pocket, making him more susceptible to edge rushers.

DE in a 3-4:

The duty for defensive ends is similar to the nose tackle. Instead however, they are tasked with doing it to tackles instead of centers.

His job is to control the offensive tackle and draw double teams from the other blockers; it does not matter if the other blocker is a guard, tight end or running back, the DE wants to get their attention.

When did I say that?

Who was our 3rd starting DL before this pick?

They're not playing 20-30 snaps only.

Im assuming we wont ever see those three guys on the field at the same time. Regardless of what you say, the role of defensive tackle is not the same as the role of the defensive ends in a 3-4. The NT takes the double team, the ends still take the quickest route to the passer. They arent standing up tackles. They now have three guys to play different dimensions and downs of the same position.
