Invictus fixes the Giants.

Yeah, this whole debacle is a head scratcher. As it stands the Giants organisation has basically now only changed the 2 time super bowl winning coach. I'm starting to wonder if maybe Coughlin wanted out more than the Giants wanted him out.

There can be only one logical explanation... they're already looking ahead to 2018.

Really depends on his hand, but if it is the same as before, he's not nearly the same guy.

Ladt I heard they were working on some specialized glove for him so he wouldn't have to play with the club anymore.

He really hasn't been good since 2011. 9 of his 12.5 sacks last year came in the final 5 games. When the games mattered he was nonexistent

You could say that about most of the team when the games mattered. Must be a coincidence that the last time you considered him good was the last time the Giants won a super bowl. He has had some injuries and we have seen the defense with him and without him, the defense is without question better with him.

True and not one going was going to make a difference this year on that defense. I just think there's options to explore. These guys talk like it's JPP or nothing

Yeah there are option and I completely understand their point of view. This past season was the first time for us to see what the defense looks like without JPP and they know there isn't another guy behind him. A year ago the team was willing to build around him and now we have to find another player to build around. JPP isn't the same player and he still requires at least two more surgeries on that hand. Can't build a defense around him anymore but he can still play a big part in it.

Look, when JPP is healthy, he is one of the elite defensive ends in the NFL. You go around the league, and find a player of JPP's caliber at the defensive end position, and you are going to only find a handful of players. Watt in Houston, Chandler Jones in New England, and maybe Ziggy Ansah in Detroit and Oakland's Khalil Mack. It's a very short list.

You have to be very, very careful about letting a guy like him walk out the door and hope you can find a replacement. If you do, you are going to pay more money than what JPP would command for a lesser player, more than likely. Other than that, you have to have to hope you hit in the draft and put your hope in a rookie.

Now I know JPP has had some injury problems and the sloppy way in which the fireworks accident was handled (pun intended), but the bottom line is it is VERY difficult to replace a player like him. He is going to re-gain the use of that hand. And when he does he will go right back to being a dominati g player.

You don't know that. Once again, he is having at least two more surgeries. What if he can only play with the club? JPP is still a great player but not the guy you build your defense around. For some fans, JPP wasn't even top ten and that was with two hands! Giants were careful last year and looks like it worked out for them.

You are embarrasingly wrong in your assessment of JPP's status among top DE's in the NFL. You are correct in saying that there is some uncertainty surrounding the functionality of the hand in the future. But this uncertainty means we can probably sign an elite talent like him at a steep discount. And that would he huge for this team. You can't understate how big that would be for the Giants if they were able to save enough money to get another blue chip player.

BTW, among DE's last year only Watt was better. It isn't only about sacks, you know.

We cant let JPP walk and hope to find someone else. If anything, return at a much lower price than what he would have commanded if not for the injury might actually help us in the long run if we again give him an incentive laden deal which he will be a fool not to accept considering what the Giants have done for him.

We have other areas to focus on....namely DL and LBers in the draft and FA. Who are the FA LBers this season?

Not my assessment of JPP among the echelon. I have always thought highly of him and still do. He wasn't interested in the multi-year approximately $60 million contract we offered him when he had use of both hands and chances are Giants are not presenting that contract to him again anytime soon or offer the franchise tag again this year. I think a transitional tag if possible could be the best move going forward.

Keeping JPP would be good, getting someone else would be better even if we had to pay more if that player is who you build the defense around.
