Treehugger
Deacon Jones passes away at 74. What a total badass. Might have been best pass rusher ever. He coined the term "sack". He invented the head slap. Sacks didn't become an official stat until 1982, but Pro Football Weekly went back and calculated that he had four seasons with over 20, including a would-be record 26 (in 14 games) in 1967. Jones played in an era with shorter seasons, otherwise he would still be way ahead of everyone in that category. I saw him in an NFL Network documentary last year, and he also seemed to be a really thoughtful, caring guy. He was truly one of the greats. BleedinBlue
Saw that in the news this morning, the man who started the term "sack". Sounds like he died of natural causes and didn't suffer for years from playing football leading with his head. A real pro. May he rest in peace

Sephiroth
I liked Deacon Jones... but "thoughtful" and "caring" are probably the last two words I'd think of to describe him.

After hearing the Jay Mohr story, "chink-a-minute" is what I think of when I think of Deacon Jones.
