Mr. P
What a crazy two years it's been for Prince Amukamara. He was a first-round draft pick of the New York Giants a year ago, and fresh off an NFL Lockout, the rookie decided to holdout for a larger contract. Shortly after he received it, he broke his foot and missed a large chunk of the 2011-2012 season. Upon his return, he quickly snagged his first career interception and Big Blue eventually went on to win the Super Bowl. Fast forward to this season, and the early story was Amukamara's ice bath in the cold tub, followed by teammates openly stating they wanted to see more "swag" from him. He was even mocked by other players around the league, who expected him to deliver them doughnuts. Yet here we are, nine weeks into the 2012-2013 NFL season, and all of that has long been forgotten. And not just because the passing time has masked it, but because Amukamara has played exceptionally well all year … perhaps more than most realize. Our friends at Pro Football Focus recently called Amukamara a "second-year standout" and rated him as the 9th best cornerback in the entire league. So far this season, Amukamara has been targeted 21 times, allowing 10 receptions (47.62%) for 110 yards and no touchdowns. He's also hauled in an interception, while quarterbacks have combined for a 43.8 QB Rating against him. By comparison, his counterpart, Corey Webster, is ranked 76th overall in the NFL. He has been targeted 40 times, allowing 26 receptions (65%) for 431 yards and three touchdowns. He, too, has an interception, but opposing quarterbacks have a combined 115.7 QB Rating against him. However, it is important to note that Webster has been playing with an injured hamstring and broken hand all season. More to the point, Amukamara appears to be answering the call. He's played aggressively all year without allowing the big play, and any mistakes he's made can be counted on one hand. He's silently played a tremendously important role for the Giants, and is giving General Manager Jerry Reese exactly what he expected when he drafted the youngster a year ago. http://www.giants101.com/2012/11/10/dont-look-now-but-new-york-giants-prince-amukamara-rated-as-one-of-nfls-best-cornerbacks/ I recall somebody saying that by the end of the season it would be arguable that prince is our best db. Allstarjim
You know, I think Webster still has the talent to be a very good corner. If you ask me, I think Webster is mailing in this season because he's content. He got paid, he has two rings, and he's not willing to make the sacrifices necessary to be great anymore. He's just not hungry anymore. He's letting guys go just assuming safety help, as he did on the first AJ Green TD. It's like the thought process was, "I have safety help back there, so I can just give up on this play right now." It's time for the coaches to start sending a message. Some players need to be sat down. New thread time.

Tuck, Osi etc. These guys are great Giants and they've accomplished plenty but at least from what we're seeing they're resting on their laurels a bit. Other teams with the pedigree and resume the Giants have don't have games like this as frequently as we do. It's hard to complain too much with 2 Super Bowls in 5 years but it'd be nice to not have a frantic second half to make the playoffs and just display more consistency. On topic though I thought Prince played a good game. Solid tackling and he was right on the receiver or the ball just about every time.

His play last week on Wallace was outstanding (forgetting the one long TD play where he was tripped by Rolle and Wallace ran past all of the other 9 guys and their dogs on the way to the endzone). Those stats are also not accounting for the fact that Webster is on the #1 most of the time, while Prince gets Brandon LaFell et al.
