Why did Girardi walk Hamilton to get to Vlad, a Manny type RBI machine? With 2 outs no less.

Cause Hamilton has been amazing in the series and Vlad not so much, but you just kind knew that would eventually catch up with them.

Man you got that right. I've never seen such a free swinger as Vlad in my lifetime. He'll swing at balls that are 2 feet out of the strike zone. If I was a pitcher facing him, I'd never throw the ball anywhere near the plate and let him swing away. Still, every now and then a pitch comes sorta near the plate and Vlad will kill it.

 

Speaking of swinging at pitch outs, I actually remember seeing Thurman Munson swing at a pitch out once. He had to step over the plate and then threw the bat at the ball. They called him out though for stepping out of the batter's box. I think he was basically trying to keep the runner from getting caught stealing. A really weird play.
