Mr. P
The Giants believe there is safety in numbers … or numbers in safeties. Whatever, they’ve added another one on the eve of training camp. The team signed veteran safety John Busing today, according to his agent, David Canter. The four-year veteran played in 43 games for the Houston Texans and Cincinnati Bengals from 2006-09, including four starts for the Texans last year. He would’ve been a restricted free agent this spring, but the Texans decided not to tender him. The Giants actually brought him in for a tryout at their mini-camp in May, but chose not to sign him at that time. However, with camp set to open tomorrow morning, the Giants need all the depth at safety that they can find. They had hoped that Kenny Phillips might be ready to go, but he will open camp on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list and remain there for about a week. His absence left Antrell Rolle, Deon Grant and Michael Johnson as the only veteran safeties in camp, along with first-year pro Sha’reff Rashad, rookie Michael Greco, and rookie Seth Williams, who was a cornerback in the mini-camps but is now listed as a safety on the depth chart. With the addition of Busing and the signing of second-round pick DT Linval Joseph, the Giants now have 79 players under contract and on the roster. The 80th spot is being held, obviously, for first-round DE Jason Pierre-Paul, who is still unsigned. http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/giants/2010/07/giants-sign-safety-john-busing.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+nydnrss%2Fblogs%2Fgiants+%28Blogs%2FThe+Blue+Screen%29&utm_content=Twitter
