Why would you do something as sick as posting clips of that game? That belongs in the pornography section. :rules:

i was just showing him the int's yeah its hard to watch, but as a fan you have to take the good times with the bad, I didn't say every pick was deep downfield that was just Collins style to throw it deep, which was good at times and bad at times, we beat Minnesota two weeks before that super bowl by going deep, Collins did try to force the ball downfield though in that superbowl.

That was not the post on this thread to take seriously.

I sat through the seventies, I've taken the bad: and that Superbowl wasn't the worst thing I've seen. We really had no business being there.

We didn't show up to play. We demolished a Vikings team that was probably superior to us. We deserved to be there, we just came in completely unprepared and got overwhelmed, quick....

i think you're right- we were the 2nd best team in the league, but not a close 2nd.

I didn't see our worst decade, I was born in 80, I did sit throught Maddox,Kanell, and Brown and not all of those moments were bad, worst year I think sat through was either last year or the 2003 season, 2003 was probably the worst I was still stinging from that Niners game the year before, most "experts" thought we were gonna be a house of fire and contend for the super bowl, instead we completely gave up on Fassell and went 4-12, but the good news was we got Eli in the following draft, cause of that bad season

I was watching a best D's of all time show on NFL Network, and that Ravens team was low, even though statistically they were great, but they were talking about how shitty their competition was that year, and that was the reasoning for putting them so low, don't know why but the NFL was not "great" from a competitive standpoint that year

The level of quaterbacking was pretty low at that point--you had Warner, McNair, and very young Manning, Brady and McNabb. That's about it.

I mean, seriously, what other period of time would have the likes of Brian Griese, Rich Gannon, and Daunte Culpepper be league leaders?

of the time you're talking about, 2003 had to be the pits--although the Reeves-era Giants were pretty unwatchable.

I follow basball to a extent, your Giants should get the wild card, Timmy is being Timmy again, not that he ever wasn't he just a worst record then he should have, and he has been overshadowed by Jimenez and Johnson

its possible your pitching could shut down Atlanta in the NLDS and then who knows, you play the Cards in the NLCS, they may acquire Oswalt, to go with Carpenter and Wainwright, I think they are the most dangerous team, they are struggling with Chicago now though and have been this weekend

Good grief, are we seriously once again downplaying the superbowl loss again because we happened to win 3 others.

We didn't deserve to be there!!.

The Vikings were better than us!!!!

Football in general was worse than it is now.

Seriously, I don't care who said it, stop with this bullshit once and for all. We deserved to be there, you don't get to be NFC champions because you win it on a scratch card. We've been in 4 superbowls, not dozens. Please go back and watch the Ravens playoff run from that season and see for yourselves that defense gives the Bears a run for their money as the best defense in the superbowl era. That's why we lost and how pretty much everyone else lost that year.

Exactly, we were a solid offensive team that got manhandled by a team with a vastly better defense that they didn't really even need an offense...or a quarterback....

Similarly to 07, we got hot at the right time, only in 00, we laid an egg in the SB...

According to Jessie Armistead and others...Fassel changed the entire game plan and became increasingly erratic as the Super Bowl neared. It was almost as if he were in panic mode. Basically he and Collins beat themselves before the first snap.

i don't think it would have made a difference if vince lombardi was coaching that day.

That's a really fair point.

I'm not sure Gilbride is as bad as everybody makes him out to be. Yes, he does some inexplicably stupid things sometimes (three straight passes into a 30 MPH headwind when your RB has just ripped off 28 and 17 yard runs) but overall it could be a lot worse.

Those play calls were pure genius, they never saw those incomplete passes coming!

But we sure did.

If you guys want to delude yourselves into thinking that 2000 team was better than a pre-injury Warner and the St. Louis Rams, rather than us getting some serious breaks, that's your choice.

a little grumpy today?

You know the season is right around the corner when the Gilbride-bashing starts.

Normally, I'd pile on, except that our defense was so awful it's simply not fair to point to the offense at all.

p.s.....Anyone else drafting Hedgecock in the 1st round in FF?

Kinda. And I'm a bit tired of this topic myself.

That isn't what you said. You said we had no business being there. Winning enough games to make it to the playoffs, then winning games in the playoffs to make it to the Super Bowl = deserving of the NFC bid.

We trounced a superior Vikings team....didn't mean they had no business being in the NFC championship game, either....
