Mr. P
The Giants have begun the process of getting their draft picks under contract. First up: safety Chad Jones. The team announced Friday they agreed to terms with Jones on an undisclosed contract. Jones, the team's third-round pick (No. 76 overall), will soon sign the deal, which will be worth slightly less than the four-year, $2.638-million contract the Bears gave safety Major Wright, who was selected one slot before Jones. Wright received a signing bonus of $848,000. Jones, a former baseball player who was drafted by the Astros in the 13th round of the 2007 Major League Baseball draft, chose to stick with football at LSU and in the NFL. He likely won't see much playing time this year if Kenny Phillips makes a timely recovery from knee surgery. The team also added Antrel Rolle and Deon Grant via free agency. To make room on the 80-man roster for Jones, the Giants waived kicker Sam Swank, who signed in January. http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2010/06/giants_sign_third-round_pick_s.html
