ohara makes probowl

Okay, in terms of yardage produced Steve Smith was 9th. Hows that for production?

And no...AllStarTard completely destroyed your argument. Why do I say that?...I was on your side when the thread started, I was actually all gung ho to go off on how Smith got shafted. But... checked the numbers, turns out I was wrong. Live and learn.

Yah, because Moss is in the Pro Bowl and Welker's sitting home. Obviously, the flashiest player always makes the Pro Bowl ahead of the workhorse. But you're right, Tard's argument was spot on.

I think those are all reasonable points. But when you have other guys doing more with fewer reps, its hard to sit them down to put in the workhorse.

At the end of the day Smith had more touchdowns. That's more production. My point is, on the stat sheet, it doesn't matter who had less reps. Add 30 more hypothetical receptions, and yes, he's probably got more touchdowns than Smith, but it sure is too bad those hypothetical receptions and touchdowns don't exist.

He also had less fumbles, more first downs converted, and was basically the best and nearly only option for Eli down the stretch.

I'd say Rice showed why he got in the pro bowl today. The dude can flat out play ball.

Never said he couldn't. But whatever he puts up against 4th string cornerbacks and two safeties who shouldn't even be backups in the NFL shouldn't even be considered. His first 50 yard completion would have been at the least deflected by a competent cornerback.

It is the Giants defense we're talking about here.

heheh....and now you're dangerously close to making a case for the wisdom of fan voting. I dare say there isn't anybody in an NFL front office or coaching staff that would take Welker over Moss (excepting perhaps age considerations).

Did you suffer through the Giants game yesterday? To hell with a couple TD difference, if the Vikings would send us Rice for Smith, straight up, the Giants would be mentally retarded not to jump at the deal. You don't have to look at a stat sheet to figure that out, not when its so obvious on the field.

Ah yes...and at the end of the day, on the stat sheet, Sidney Rice had more TDs than Steve Smith. Thats more production. And he did it in fewer reps. And despite having 24 more receptions, he only had two more first downs than Sidney Rice.

The more I look at the numbers, the less it makes sense to me to argue for Steve Smith in place of someone else named to the team.

With the exception of Welker. But he's AFC, so he's irrelevant.

That wasn't my point. I understand Moss is the better player.

And you're really are going to fail to mention the complete lack of anybody in our secondary on Sunday?

Two of his longer catches, all they had to do was put their hands up and it wouldn't have been complete.

Damn straight.

Being a Rutgers alum, I followed Rice throughout college, and I knew (yes, knew) he would be a terrific NFL running back.

In fact, I drafted him in my fantasy football league, and he helped carry me to a Championship....he was a rock from Week 1.

Ooops!....that's what I get for reading these threads backwards.

Both to them can play ball.

HA, yep I was talking about Sidney, but Ray is real good. One of my best friends from college is a huge Rutgers fan so I've watched a bunch of their games and saw how good Rice and Britt were. Funny story about him, he was at a Rutgers basketball game in the bathroom when Brian Leonard went to the urinal next to him, he was speechless and to this day regrets not saying hello.

Last I checked everybody on that field was a professional football player. A few of them probably won't be in a few months, but so what...you could say that about every team, every week.

Not every team is without a starter at every position in the secondary, was my point.

You've tried to make a lot of points, it can be hard to keep track. :05-mafia:

All I'm saying is that Smith was top 3 in the NFC and this year. He was just as deserving, at the point of the argument, as Austin or Rice. But since he's on a team that self destructed and doesn't make flashy catches or return kicks(even though this shouldn't even be in consideration since theres a specific spot for return specialists), he was snubbed. If you're going to look at touchdown numbers and total yardage gaine, Smith had the edge over Austin in yardage and Rice in TDs when the voting was compiled...add to the fact that even though Eli had other targets, Smith was Eli's go to guy, far more so than Austin or Rice were to Romo and Favre.

So, in my opinion, impact AND what a receiver means to a team should be looked at, because, without Steve Smith, the Giants wouldn't be sustaining many drives and would have quite a few less points.
