Money is the root of all evil Fox V.S. Time Warner

Background From NFL V.S. Time Warner

The NFL Network is embroiled in a dispute with several cablecompanies. Perhaps the most public controversy is over its removal onsome systems owned by Time Warner Cable, the second-largest system in the United States, which occurred in September 2006.

NFL Network has insisted that it be placed on basic service and wishto charge the cable companies a monthly rate of $0.61 per subscriber, while Time Warner and other major cable companies wishes to place it ona sports tier. Cable companies feel that a channel with such marginalinterest and few live games with filler programming would be tough tosell during non-football season months.[34]NFL Network's position is that demands are unreasonable and many otherproviders place NFL Network on a basic tier without subscriberbacklashes.

So if Time Warner and Fox can not Come to terms on a bigger deal that NFL network wants with Time Warner we probably wont see Giant football on TV any more after the Carolina Game.

However ,if they do strike a deal does this open the door for NFLNetwork on Time Warner?

basically Fox wants $1 a month per Time Warner subscriber

and NFL network want's about $0.61

I don't see the deal going through ....... hmmmm maybe the NFL is using Fox as a Pawn?

First of all, fuck the NFL Network. What a bunch of horse shit that channel is. and Time Warner is right to think that such marginalized programming would actually profit. Second of all, fuck Fox. Their news and TV programs suck, anyway.

And finally, fuck Time Warner. Everyone should just go with Direct TV and Sunday Ticket. Problem solved. You'd probably save money cutting out TW's ridiculous telephone, internet, and cable bills by going with a separate internet provider, using your cell phone as your main contact source, and watching Direct TV.

And there'd be no lame football game blackouts to worry about.

Yeah like Cell phone service works so good up here in the mountains and I am not NOT!!!!!! going back to dial up. besides if you get Internet with TW Basic cable is free because you need one to get the other.

My gripe is with TW .They put on Who knows how many BULLSHIT channels how many shopping and soap opera Channels do we need to pay for anyway they(TW) want NFL network to go to a tier package so the select few will buy it but NFL wants it available to everyone just to grab up less then a cup off coffe a month .

Storm, how then do you propose someone get a decent internet connection without going over a cable system? Here we've got three choices for internet (four if you count a commercial T1-style hookup)...DSL, satellite, and cable, which is locally provided ONLY by Time Warner.

I've crunched the numbers on this...at least around here (maybe other areas have more competition) you can't beat the cable bundle, especially if internet access is important to you.

Less than a cup of coffee a month PER subscriber...that's a boatload.

You don't get cell service in the mountains? Are you Verizon? From their commercials you'd think every where in the world would get cell service...but I forgot about you poor souls, haha.

And the basic cable isn't "free"...somewhere along the line you're paying for that, even if you don't pay a monthly fee for the basic....and is the basic like just channels 1-13 or whatever? Or is the basic everything that isn't included in the Digital Cable packages?

I'm just saying, as far as cable TV and internet goes, theres other ways, maybe not for you. And I think Time Warner sucks....

I am thinking about going Fios myself....the satellite networks still have problems with bad weather don't they?

I live in Good Ol Florida, and the only time that I have any signal problems is when the it wrath of god type weather outside. The type of weather that would just as easily knock out cable. and even then maybe only for a few minutes.

Fox, Time Warner Cable announce broadcast deal

1 day ago (AP:LOS ANGELES)

The Fox televisionnetwork and Time Warner Cable on Friday announced an agreement inprinciple on a television programming deal that allows signals to continue for millions of cable subscribers.

Fox had threatened to force Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks to drop the Fox broadcast signal from 14 of its TV stations and half a dozen of its cable channels as a contract expired at midnight Thursday.

But signals were extended into Friday as talks continued, allowing more than 6 million cable subscribers in New York, Los Angeles, Orlando,Fla., and other markets to watch college football bowl games and other programming.

A statement from Fox and Time Warner Cable said the deal includes Bright House.

"We're pleased that, after months of negotiations, we were able to reach a fair agreement with Time Warner Cable _ one that recognizes the value of our programming," said Chase Carey, deputy chairman at News Corp.,which owns Fox.

The negotiations had left some football fans wondering whether they would have access to the Sugar Bowl game, a matchup between highly ranked Florida and Cincinnati that's scheduled to start at 8:30 p.m. EST.

Those worries are over, Time Warner Cable Inc. Chief Executive Glenn Britt said.

"We're happy to have reached a reasonable deal with no disruption in programming for our customers," he said in the statement.

The statement did not give details on the agreement. Fox has said it wants to be paid $1 per cable subscriber each month for the broadcast signal it now gives away freely from the stations it owns. Other Fox affiliate stations that are owned by different companies have already cut dealsto be paid by cable operators for a fraction of that fee.

Fox had said it can no longer give away its stations' signals because the network is facing stiff competition from cable channels, such as theWalt Disney Co.'s ESPN, which earn subscriber fees on top of advertising dollars.

That dual revenue stream allowed ESPN to outbid Fox for high-priced events such as the college football Bowl Championship Series _ including the Sugar Bowl, Fiesta Bowl and Orange Bowl that are now on Fox _ from 2011 to 2013.

Time Warner Cable,in the meantime, had vowed to hold the line on cable bill increases, and said the vast of majority of viewers who went to its Web site, http://www.rolloverorgettough.com , urged it to "get tough" and fight back higher costs. http://www.rolloverorgettough.com Neither side would have fared well if signals had been pulled.

Fox would have lost viewers and advertising dollars for some highly anticipated shows this month, including the 20th anniversary special of"The Simpson's" on Jan. 10, and the season premieres of "American Idol"on Jan. 12 and "24" on Jan. 17. It urged viewers to go to its Web site,http://www.keepfoxon.com . http://www.keepfoxon.comIf the signal had been dropped, cable operators could anger customers, who can switch to competitive television providers such as DirecTV or AT&T's U-verse that carry Fox programming. Satellite TV provider Dish Network, which already has a deal with Fox, has been heavily advertising in newspapers, radio and TV telling Time Warner Cable customers, "Don't risk missing your favorite shows."

When I had cable, I rarely had a down time, but neighborhoods around me did using the same company. The thing is, when cable goes out, it stays out for hours or longer sometimes. When satellite goes out, it's only for a few minutes during an electric storm.

Fios would probably be a nice option, but Verizon hasn't laid their fiber optics here, and they probably never would. I doubt they even know we're here. In fact, I doubt God knows we're here. I have to travel 20 miles just to get decent Italian bread.

I was shocked my nabe on the Queens/Nassau border got wired pretty quick. Thing is my neighborhood is saturated with satellite and cable....my coop just passed a rule about no more satellites so I guess a lot of us will go Fios...Time Warner can suck my ever loving dick....New York 1 can too....it might as well be another corporate news station. :F-U:

Yeah, I've heard good things about Fios...when it finally comes out my way, I'm on it.

Here's a thought....why isn't the consumer allowed to purchase channels ala carte?
