Ditto
Rumor? What happened to DHing by committee so they could reduce wear and tear on the Jeter's and Posada's? If they wanted to sign another DH, why didn't they just keep Matsui?
BullsOnParade
This would be a great signing... Johnson is an OBP beast, will hit 25+ in the stadium, and his fragile body won't have to endure the field. Great.
Ditto
Well, it's a done deal. I hope you're right about the power nos. I do like the OPB, and he can hit lefties. No speed, though, and to rest the old guys, they have to sit on the bench.
Guest StrahansGap
I'm not as big on the signing of free agents strictly based on OBP numbers as most of the GM's in MLB are. No offense to you guys who think Johnson's OBP numbers are more important than the intagibles of a player like Matsui, but those numbers are for the stat geeks that sleep with their calculators on a nightly basis. We all know Matsui has balky knees, but can someone please remind me who it was that won the World Series MVP again? Nick Johnson has injury issues too. Are you going to tell me it was over the million dollars difference between the two? What, the Yankees couldn't have afforded Matsui for a million more? Come on now. Bad move for the Yankees. Nick Johnson is and never will be anywhere near the hitter Hideki Matsui is.....period!
