xxi-xxv
I for one have no problem with Matt Cain hitting David Wright as he did. Its an 0-2 count and it was an accident. Not intentional at all. Now we all know fans and we know Met fans particularly this year are a bit testy when it comes to injuries. Matt Cain has to know this too because tipping your cap to the crowd who was booing because thats what opposing fans do to players that plunk and lay out their best player do, intentional or not is just not cool. Makes it appear he does not care about Wright because at that point he like no one else knew the severity of the injury. Like I said no problem with the pitch, but the tip of the cap makes it seem like he could care less.
fringe
i think there was a big contingent of giant fans behind the dugout - fox mentioned that. If it makes you feel better to connect the 2, go ahead. You know Cain isn't like that.

I also heard the announcer use the words "appears to not care". Again whatever the scenario I have no problem with, but you can see the issue. Again, no problem with what Cain did, he just has to handle that better IMO. NY fans and Met fans are like that and that was a scary scene. He is our guy, our one guy who seems to care. I for one would not have booed Cain, but place 10 beers and an already angry about the season fan there and you know the deal. btw does any team AL or NL want to see that team in a short series? Talk about pitching and defense, that teams built for Citifield
fringe
he was waving to the big contingent of giants fans who got tickets from fed up mets season ticket holders. same folks molina acknowledged after he hit the homer. it's pretty common to tip your hat and acknowledge your fans after pitching a gem for 7 1/3. i'm sure the entire giants team is concerned for dave wright-especially after what happened to joe martinez this season. sandoval had his man pants on today, didn't he? Taylorized56
Cain said he was just "adjusting my cap" according to the SF Chronicle. No mention of him acknowledging Giants fans in the stands.

I read today where Cain was very concerned and planned to call Wright, so IMO thats a dead issue. If he was doing a FU to the fans thats just stupid, a profesional has to know better because all he did is add fuel to the fire of an already testy situation as far as the fans go. You hit another teams best player, the fan favorite, knock him out for 2 minutes you have to expect to get booed. Cains a young guy though so I guess its not a big deal and his posr game comments sort of help his defense.

I don't think Cain meant to hit Wright... but I do think he was trying to brush him back off the plate up and in. It's part of baseball, but I'm still pissed and I'm glad Johan protected his players.
