gateb
For weeks, no one wanted to say it. Not even Tom Coughlin after Sunday's crushing playoff loss to the Eagles ended the Giants' season in a manner they never expected. But general manager Jerry Reese was blunt after the game when asked if the Giants' offense missed beleaguered wide receiver Plaxico Burress. "Obviously, it's hard to replace that," Reese said in a nearly-empty locker room. "The guy has a presence out there and when you lose that, teams play you differently. We made some adjustments, but today we had opportunities. We just didn't make enough plays." The big question, then, is whether the Giants' struggles without Burress have nudged the team toward bringing him back, provided he doesn't get sent to prison for illegal gun possession. Before Burress' suspension, Eli Manning had completed 62 percent of his passes and had a passer rating of 91.3. In the five games after Burress' season was ended by the team's placing him on the non-football injury list, Manning completed only 54 percent of his passes and had a dreadful rating of 63.6. "If everything goes all right, yeah," Reese said when asked if Burress could return next season. "Absolutely." Reese kept saying there were plays to be made Sunday without Burress on the field. Of course, those plays are tougher to make when a 6-5, 232-pounder isn't forcing a defense to devote several players to his side of the field. "Your margin of error is way less when you don't have a guy with that kind of presence out there," Reese said, "so you have to capitalize on every opportunity you have and we were not able to make enough plays." Can the Giants' offense survive without Burress? Maybe. But the scheme was designed and installed with him in mind, so it's a tough switch for the coaching staff and players to make during the season. "Obviously, the guy has a presence when he's on the field. But do they have a Plax out there -- the Eagles? I don't think so," Reese said. "They have good receivers, we have good receivers. They made the plays, we didn't. They deserve all the credit."

gateb
told you ::self high five:: he'd probably be singing a different tune if we hoisted a lombardi for the second stragiht year. but since its clear our dense OC can't adjust and our QB cant adapt to the meadowlands wind we probably don't have a choice. Does anyone else besides me think having homefield in december-January isn't so much of an advantage? We suck in the wind.

nosebleedjints
Problem is...Plax is stupid. Who is stay he doesn't pull the same bull shit he did all year. Being late...missing practices...cussing at the coach like he did during the SF game? I think it speaks volumes about how desperate we are/how pathetic the WR FAs are. Now Plax will be like the girl who you dump only to find out you need, he will have MORE power than ever.

Not since the days of the Prostitute has homefield advantage meant anything.....it don't mean shit for us in other words. If we utilize the offensive tools we had properly the Giants would have told Plaxico to suck it. And that is what made me angry about the whole situation. The commissioner would have probably suspended him for 2-4 games; but I guarantee he would have been allowed to play in the playoffs. Look they let an unidicted co conspirator such as Ray Lewis play through the whole fucking playoffs. I was pissed the Giants decided to just say fuck it. OKAY great we get the Good Citizen Award....ok after you take it out of your ass what is it worth?

fishgutmartyr
I'm sorry, but I don't want him back. It's bad for the team's image. He has an attitude problem already--letting him slide on this would make it worse. He had a pretty bad season and he's 32. What's he going to be like towards the end of the contract he's just signed? Even assuming he dodges jail-time, we might be better off cutting him and saving the money from his contract for someone else.
BurnThePhilFans
He should have to pay each player on the team what it would have cost to make their 08' superbowl rings - Because he robbed them of theirs.

It was never certain. We got beat today plain and simple. We can point the finger all we want but in the end the TEAM lost.

We suck in 20+ mph wind, but luckily we have a running game that can carry the team. Unfortunately, we don't have an OC who's prepared to lean on it. That premature contract extension was a bad move.
