Lughead
this is from Tom Rock LINK How to get the bye Even after this two-game skid, the Giants can still get a bye in the first round of the playoffs and they can still capture homefield advantage throughout. And the good news is they control their own destiny (don't you love that phrase?) Here are the standings atop the NFC as of today: Giants 11-3 Panthers 11-3 Vikings 9-5 Cardinals 8-6 So if the Giants can beat the Panthers on Sunday night, they would clinch the top seed and homefield, not to mention that all-important bye. Case closed. If the Vikings lose their game to the Falcons on Sunday afternoon, the Giants would get a bye no matter what and then the Panthers game would just be for the 1-2 seeding. If the Vikings win and the Giants lose on Sunday, it would set up a Giants-Vikings game on the final Sunday of the regular season -- in Minnesota -- in which the winner would get the following weekend off and the loser would have to host a Wild Card game (assuming the Vikings win the division and the Bears don't creep into the picture; I have neither the time nor the inclination to go through tie-breaking procedures for the NFC North division at this point). Oh, and just so you don't think those opponents will be rolling over, the Giants and the Cardinals are the only teams in the conference to clinch their division titles. So the Panthers and Vikings are still fighting for crowns, not just playoff perks. And the Bucs are still in the running for the NFC South title, although they'd need some help from the Giants. Remember two weeks ago when all of this would have seemed funny? So we root for the Falcons to win and Hopefully this will take most of the pressure off of the G-men going into the Carolina game. The bye would be secure but not Home field. Although I want to see us get it done and Over Sunday night with a WIN It will make watching the Giants Game a lot less stressful if the Falcons win . ...... GO TURNER GO . NightFire
I doubt Coughlin will rest players but if the Vikings lose I hope he continues to keep Jacobs out for the Carolina game. The Giants don't seem to play all that well at home so it's barely an advantage anyway.

Vikings DT Pat Williams is OUT for Falcon's game. That helps. 2 weeks ago I didn't think I'd have to root for a team to lose, but the Giants NEED that bye week in the worst way so I'll take it however it comes. BurnThePhilFans
You mean 6-1 right? ha my fault. For some reason I thought the Minnesota game was at home and that we had only played 6 home games.
NightFire
You mean 6-1 right? Well after checking for this decade it's about the same but the Giants are slightly better on the road. Of course there is last year where the Giants did their best winning on the road.
Gspotter
I agree, rest Jacobs one more week. It's imperative that he's healthy if we're to have any luck in the playoffs. I might also start putting a brace on him somehow.
