Yankees at the plate: Luis Garcia smacked a two-run home run to left field in the seventh inning off Red Sox reliever David Riske to snap a 3-3 deadlock. Bernie Williams homered in the second inning, blasting a solo shot against Jonathan Papelbon. It was Williams' first homer of the spring. Gary Sheffield had an RBI sacrifice fly in the third, scoring Johnny Damon. Robinson Cano added an RBI single in the sixth, scoring Jason Giambi.


Red Sox at the plate: Adam Stern blasted a solo home run to right field in the ninth inning to pull the Red Sox to within a run. Boston plated three runs in the fourth inning against Shawn Chacon, two of them coming on Wily Mo Pena's first home run as a member of the Red Sox. Adam Stern doubled in Alejandro Machado later in the inning.


Yankees on the mound: Chacon made his fifth start of the spring, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks over five innings. The right-hander struck out six in the no-decision. Mariano Rivera threw a perfect inning in the sixth.


Red Sox on the mound: Papelbon gave up two runs on five hits in five innings on Wednesday, making his fifth start of the spring. Papelbon walked two and struck out three. Mike Timlin allowed one unearned run in an inning of work. Craig Hansen pitched a scoreless eighth inning.


Grapefruit League records: Yankees 10-12; Red Sox 6-13.


Up next: The Yankees host the Astros on Thursday at 7:15 p.m. ET at Legends Field, as Scott Proctor starts against Houston's Carlos Hernandez.
