I used to think the same but his running position has improved a lot since he first joined us, not nearly so upright anymore. As far as contact goes he takes the same punishment any between-the-tackles runner does. Hell, Portis took worse last night.

 

the dog did notice he is running at a lower level...the thing is, any punishing runner in the middle that takes multiple people to bring him down is exposed to even more fluke injuries (twists in the piles, awkward falls...), and often a runner like that takes more shots at the knees b/c defenders have few options but to go low to have a chance 1 on 1...that is why the dog thinks he will struggle to stay healthy each year - constant punishment and more opportunities for those fluke type injuries...

There's no doubt that runners like that struggle t stay healthy. The trick is not have other runners to carry the load.. which we do.
