A good Diehl for the Giants

The Jason Sehorn contract still sticks in my mind though, definately a mistake.

not really...what was a mistake was ruining his career forcing him to return kicks and punts as our best cornerback...that was straight stupid.

Imagine how awkward Family Christmas at the Coughlins would be if Snee left New York for more money. There's no way Chris Snee doesn't get paid by this team while Coughlin is here.

If Snee wants it, then give it to him. He has been The Force on the right side of the line. The only thing Whimper has done to impress me is stay on the roster.

You down with 7 years 49 mil for a G? Thats what Hutchinson got and Snee aint be no Hutchinson thats for sure. A deal similar to the one that Diehl just got would be appropriate for Snee.

it's way better than assembling piece-meal offensive lines a la 2000-2004...

he's the best offensive lineman we have and have had for years. Of course they should resign him even if he's gonna demand a lot of money.

He asked Fassel to return kicks, he wanted to be on the field more.

Last great white corner ever.

Regardless...you don't let your best cornerback return kicks. I don't remember Champ Bailey or Charles Woodson ever returning kicks. It was a terrible, terrible decision that ruined Sehorn's career.

An important thing to remember with Diehl is that his new contract doesn't preclude him from playing OG -- the numbers are commensurate with other top interior OL. Thus, if Whimper turns the corner and converts those flashes of ability into consist performance, Diehl sliding back to LG isn't out of the picture.

Woodson has been the Packers primary punt returner each of the last two years. Bailey returned punts for an entire season in Washington.

I'm in the camp that you should put your best players on the field. If you're afraid of "risk" involved with returning kicks, then you might as well keep that player off the field altogether. Football is violent sport and he might get hurt...

yah, he might get hurt doing what he's paid to do though. other guys are paid to return kicks. they are kick return specialists. there'd be no such thing as a kick return specialist if we just put the best running backs, wide receivers and corners out there...

I was always under the impression they were all paid to play football...

btw, now that the packers found better kick returners chances are woodson won't be returning kicks anymore, anyway.

You don't often see number 1, top tier cornerbacks returning kicks, better? And it's just as well they didn't as to their being paid top money to be top cornerbacks. Not kick returners. Guys are getting paid small bucks for kick returning duties.

Which is why I'm glad RW returns kicks and not say...Aaron Ross.

Agree completely. And he ruined his career playing a meaningless game against the Jets who gang tackled him like it was critical play in the Super Bowl as opposed to the pre season. And his frame, speed and ball hawking skills would have been better utilized at free safety after the injury.

Definitely, I agree. The Rams moved him there and got like 2 more years out of him. I remember that game so vividly, too. My dad who's a Redskins fan called it, too. He was like, what in the hell do they have him returning kicks during a preseason game for? If I remember correctly it was coming off the playoff run in which he made that sick pick against the Eagles for 6, I think.

MCKeenzie is not that old and he was not that slow last year. he was tremendous in run blocking as that right side mauled teams from time to time. The only thing I can think of in your assesment of him as a hothead is you have him confused with Bob Whitfield  , McKeenzie is not a hot head.

I'm with you on this one. I don't know what Tree is talking about.

Actually just from a physical stand point, Sehorn had no business returning kicks. He's too tall for the role and tall guys have limps all over the place making them much suciptable to injury.

I think believing that guys are paid to do one thing and one thing only is a really limited viewpoint, especially in a game like football where a great player can contribute in so many different capacities.

Playing out of position is also a very good way to limit a player's effectiveness and get him hurt, which was my point.

Obviously there is a huge difference between a guard being needed to shift to tackle or a defensive end(like Tuck) switching to defensive tackle on some plays, and moving a cornerback to an offensive position such as wide receiver or kick/punt returner...obv some guys learned how to actually do it in college and succeed at it while others just have a natural talent...but the whole reason there are guys like Dante Hall(who is obviously NOT very good at wide receiver) is so that teams can put talented players back there and keep their other talented players that play other positions from getting hurt and/or tired.
