Giants Take Look at S Artrell Hawkins

Could help be on the way for the Giants' secondary?

The Giants, yesterday, worked out former New England Patriots defensive back Artrell Hawkins, a nine-year NFL veteran who was cut by the Pats in mid-August. The 5-10, 195-pounder played safety for New England last season, filling in for free safety Eugene Wilson and strong safety Rodney Harrison. However, he played mostly cornerback in his years with the Cincinnati Bengals (1998-2003) and Carolina Panthers (2004) before the Patriots (2005-06) converted him to safety.

When Hawkins was cut by the Pats, he told the Boston Globe that he was dealing with “an injury I’ve managed before,” but he wouldn’t say what it was.

The 30-year-old has made 92 career starts (including 12 last season) and has four sacks and 11 interceptions.
