Lubeck
His contract includes monetary incentives if he participates in the Pats off-season program. Would you want to add something like that to Shockey and Burresses contracts?

Would you want to add something like that to Shockey and Burresses contracts? You know, Shockey and Burress are always in great shape coming into camp, these guys work their ass off down there. I don't get the problem with that. I bet if they included an incentive Shockey and Burress would still refuse. Jerry Rice used to have his own off season program, that many other players joined him for, and they said that once they were done with Rice, that training camp was a breeze. It's really about getting to become comfortable and be on the same page with your quarterback as a receiver...something Shockey and Burress aren't. fishgutmartyr
Considering how contracts are going crazy right now, I don't think they want to open that can of worms with guys with multiple years to go on their contracts.
Lubeck
Trust me I appreciate the fact they come back in great shape, and the entire time I have been a huge supporter of their right to not take part in a VOLUNTARY program, but when Toomer (the one receiver who did a lot of off-season work with Eli) went down I could clearly see Eli was not necessarily on the same page as Plax and Shock. At least spend SOME time in the offseason working together, even if it is in Florida.
Treehugger
I'm not sure Eli's uneasiness was Plax & Shockey's fault. I'm not convinced Eli ever had the playbook down pat.

Is that Burress and Shockey and the Miami crew are working out donw there before the voluntary program, there's nothing stopping Eli from going down there to work out. Hasn't Shockey invited him down already?

Oh they were on the page alright. It was Eli flinging the pig skin at their toes instead of in the numbers.
