  1. I think signing Barkley has bigger impact on locker room than anyone realizes.  With voidable 4th year, you'd be looking at 10 mil per for cap purposes while having him under contract essentially for 3.  Yes, that means dead cap money 4 years from now.

Definitely think offensive line is priority number 1 and based on what Barkley was able to do this season given revolving door at offensive line and QB, he could do significantly more if the line is properly addressed.

He is the face of the team much like Eli was.  Make no mistake, this is not Jones' team...it's Barkley's.

But if he leaves for a HC gig.

How does that reflect poorly on Daboll?

Now if Wink becomes a DC for some obscure teams then yeah doesn't look good.

.the comment that there were some differences still lingering and his willingness to leave for another dc or hc spot is telling.

And that it came out within an hour of Daboll saying he expects both DC and OC back raises questions on how well Daboll knows his guys.

Not gonna read too much into it other than two guys who didn't or couldn't fully bury the hatchet

  3. First pass on our free agents, I see 7 worth making offers to...but setting a limit and letting them walk if they balk too hard.

Barkley - dude deserves an offer.  No more than 3 years, 40 mil with a voidable 4th year to extend cap hit if need be.  With Breida aging and Gray not exactly setting world on fire, I think it appropriate.

McKinney - already talking about making it rain after a 6 win season is annoying, but he is a good SS with some range.  He too will be north of 10 mil per by some team.  4 year, 45 mil maybe?

Simmons - played well in the role he was put in and hoping next DC can do the same.  He is not a 10 mil per kinda guy though.  3 year, 20 mil maybe?

Kreiter - a reliable LS is a good one to have.  Just wish we could find a backup G who could also LS instead of dedicating a roster spot to a LS only.  Vet min candidate with some incentives sprinkled in for workouts and games started.

Holmes - vet min + 10% or so.  He isn't great, but he isn't a terrible rotational piece if a starter gets dinged for a week.  Definitely look at CB free agents for upgrade or and equivalent for less money.

Olszewski - bright spot brought in mid year.  Certainly should come back on a multi-year deal.  Would have been nice to see him at WR at least once or twice, but he earned a ST roster spot for sure.

Beavers/Coughlin/Brown - probably Brown out of this group for ST...but whomever comes cheapest here can stay.

Literally the other 20 are easily replaceable.

That's the problem wit any coordinator really.

They build the team around their style and if they are successful they leave to go be HCs elsewhere and your left hoping you can pick up the pieces.

If the Raiders don't hire AP as HC, bring him in as the next DC.

Would absolutely love AP here.  Think the sample size for a HC gig might be small for him.  He should get some looks tho

  5. Gotta believe that 2 QBs are going in top 4.  My guess is Harrison Jr and top OT go as well.

So you're probably looking at 2nd OT, 2nd WR, top defender regardless of position but likely CB or DE.  Taking names out of it completely, 3rd QB seems like reaching at 5 overall.

I am torn between wanting Harrison and 2nd OT.  Don't know enough about CBs or DEs yet for any of them to jump off the page.

Yeah I think his injuries played a part.

Also it seems like unless you're talked about in the media no one knows who you are on the Oline.

Also Love made the probowl for the Seahawks.

I said it when Love left...he wasn't some hall of fame guy, but he just seemed like a guy who was gonna be missed, and he was.

  7. Yeah, I wanted to lose out weeks ago, but when game is close, I find myself still rooting for our Giants.  Win against GB was a fun one.  Keeping it close against the Eagles was fun.  And the fact they're still playing hard at this point of the season speaks very well of the coaches and should not go unnoticed.

But yeah, play hard and lose these last two please...though if close, I am sure I'll find myself cheering for Blue

  8. Barkley has been playing as if auditioning...and can't blame him.  I don't see the Giants tagging him the 2nd time...my bet is he plays elsewhere next year.

We have DJ next year regardless, likely to start, with a 1st or 2nd round rookie to replace Tyrod.

  9. To be fair, DJ is a shell shocked David Carr now.  It wasn't entirely his fault that he had constant pressure.  Couple that with the ability to run and it makes sense he tucks and runs shortly after first or second read.

He was a 2nd or 3rd round QB waaaayyyy overdrafted and thrust into a role the team wasn't ready to support.

Had he come in and sat for a year or two like many 2nd or 3rd round guys do, developed and not have to play behind a line that had been outright neglected, his story may have been different.

Irrelevant at this point because experience and injury have shaped him into a borderline starter at best, practice squad at worst.  Likely falls into a career backup role that gets a shot to flash one more time with some other team when their starter goes down and by then, he won't have young legs to rely on.

  10. Drafting DJ was a product of two things and it's debatable in what order we would place them.

First was the Eli effect.  Just gonna say it...he is white, smart, pocket passer who has some athletic ability who despite the on field fallacies, carries himself very well off the field.  You aren't gonna hear of him jerking off on a masseuse anytime soon I wouldn't think.  He isn't going to be a PR nightmare and I really think ownership is more than willing to sacrifice on field ability if they can be assured of off field...normalcy, for lack of a better word.

Secondly it was timing.  I don't recall Jones having a ton of other QBs in his class, but could be mistaken.  I seem to remember it being a weak group overall which in and of itself pushed him into the 1st round.  Same can be said for when his rookie deal was up.  He had one good, full season and Giants were shit outta options other than to start fresh, but they weren't gonna do that after he supposedly put it all together.

For my money, I was waiting for him to win with his arm only.  Put a couple 75% completion, 300+ yard games in a row with fewer than 50 rushing yards.  There was movement in that direction, but not enough before we had to pay him.

I will give our current FO a lot of credit in giving the team an out after two years cause that hedge is gonna save us in the long run it seems.

I don't understand the "wait till your team is good to draft a QB" crowd either. You need a top-5 pick to land a good QB in the draft; if you wait till you're even an 8-8 team you're looking at giving up multiple first rounders over multiple years to take a guy that may not even be the guy. It makes zero sense.

If you need a QB, and you have a high pick and there's a franchise QB there, you draft him. It's a no-brainer.

That's enough "ifs" to call it a case by case basis.  It's why teams put a round value on a player and why mocks are done.

But there is a fine line between overdrafting a player due their position and ranking the premium positions (pass rush, qb, left tackle, etc).

You look at your needs, you shore them up in FA to avoid HAVING to draft a specific position...giving yourself flexibility on draft day.  Then, you hope to draft 1 or 2 day one starters and the rest to step into starting roles in a year or two.
