  1. Barkley gets a bad rap for going to division rival.  Also, if he just posted a BS message like McKinney did, he likely wouldn't get as much backlash.  Instead, he engages with talking head, Barber.

Would it have been too hard to say, regardless of how true, "I understand this move will be tough for the die hard fans of Big Blue to accept.  That said, I frankly was not offered a contract this offseason, 2 years of negotiations to lengthen my Giants tenure haven't proven fruitful, and this opportunity is beneficial both financially and gives me a chance to play on a team closer to playoff calibur than the Giants are right now.  I have nothing but respect for NY and its fans.  I will miss my teammates and hope they find success.  I will always have a special place in my heart for the Giants given that's where I started my NFL career.  Thanks NY!"

    My ideal draft right now:

    - #6 WR Rome Odunze

    - 2nd round (Giants trade their #47 pick and a 2025 2nd round pick to whomever to move up and take Michael Penix)

    - 3rd: Best CB or S

    - 4th: Best CB or S

    - 5th: OL or DL depth

    - 6th: OL or DL depth

I would push DL depth up in that list...last time someone said "you can never have enough pass rushers" it worked out pretty well for us.

The cat out of Penn State in the 2nd wouldn't be a bad grab if we went QB in first.  Tho Rome is a tough one to pass on if avail

  3. Could have a worse backup.

One one hand, we go into season with Jones, Lock, DeVito ljkely in that order on depth chart.

On other, we draft a guy and pivot out DeVito.  Drafted guy sits for a year and comes in next year to unseat Jones.  We can look to restructure or cut Jones...or we can resign Lock at that point if rook works out.

Creates options, which I think is a huge piece of free agency.

We may not have the draft capital to trade up to a top 3 spot. Those three teams in the top 3 all need a QB...and they need one to start on day one.

I don't disagree.  Only way I could see it is if we convinced them Jones can start for them and make him part of the trade...but that's about the longest shot ever.

Gonna be interesting...especially now that Tyrod is gone.

  5. I think I want to trade up, but not sure we can get to 3.  All signs point to Williams-Maye-Daniels in top 3.  McCarthy doesn't excite me.

So yeah, if you can swing a trade up for Daniels or Maye, whomever is the 3rd QB...do that.  If not, take Harrison Jr, Odunze, Nabors...in that order.

With Tyrod gone, we almost have to draft a guy...unless there are other back QBs around

The simple solution and most obvious one was to tag Jones.

Even if they didnt resign Barkey to a longer contract Jones on a one year deal after having a below average year is a good thing to have.

For some reason they bet on Jones, when all signs pointed to never bet on Jones lol

Might have had more to do with how close they thought they were in negotiations with each.  Guessing they thought pretty confidently they were gonna get Barkley done.

Oh well.  5 more years of bullshit ahead.

If it was the case they would of never resigned Jones.

Teams in rebuild dont sign backup QBs to 160 million dollar deals lol

I honestly think Schoen and Dabs maybe not panicked but were surprised by the 2022 results.

We overachieved and beat a weak team in the playoffs.

Maybe they thought 2023 would be the same with  minimal roster building.

There is no question Daniel Jones timing has had an impact between his being overdrafted in a year of not great options and being resigned when his contract was up when there weren't great options and he was coming off a playoff win.  Giants were very much fucked into a corner.

I was referring to the taking a year to clear old (bad) contracts off the books.  Seems we have to do that every year to our own detriment while teams like the chiefs can drop 158mil over 5 on Chris Jones...despite having a QB at 50mil per

With these contracts being signed, I can't see the Giants getting much more than players like this or JR. with the cap situation.

This year is basically a wash to clean the books and go into next season with a cleaned out roster and cap.

Ain't that been the case since Schoen got here?
