  1. Carr is a pretty good signing for Dallas. Don't think that that will limit their interest in safeties and other CBs. Their secondary was awful.
  2. To be honest, I was torn on the RB position before Jacob's departure. Now, we have a hole to fill for sure. I think that the front office likes to fill holes in FA, thereby giving them the flexibility to take BPA in the draft. So, I really think that the Giants should look at a guy like Tolbert first, so long as he comes in relatively cheap...which probably won't happen. I'm not sold at all on Ware. I trust the Giants coaching staff enough to be fine with him as a depth guy, and as a 3rd RB, I wasn't bitching. But I don't have the confidence in him at all to move him up to #2. I just don't see enough production out of him when he does get his chances. Scott - just hasn't gotten enough opportunities. Granted, he's put the ball on the turf a few times in the chance he has gotten, but for all we know, that was first chance, first NFL game jitters. I don't want him going anywhere before he gets one more chance. At the end of the day, I think we draft a RB. A few weeks ago when I first looked at draft picks, Bernard Pierce intrigued me as a 3rd round guy. That was pre-combine though and I'm not certain where he's now projected. Doug Martin was also a guy who caught my eye, but he was more a 2nd round guy at that time. I still don't think we go RB in the first. I think TE or OLine depth is the way to go. CB/S might not be the worst either.
  3. There are a bunch of teams where Ross could be their #2. I still think that that the Ross and Manningham situations are awfully similar. 3rd best on current team at their position, FAs, and could be #2's elsewhere. Once the cream of the FA crop get snatched up, we'll see if these two actually latch on somewhere. Surprised we haven't heard anything about Manningham or Jacobs yet.
  4. Look, I hope he lives a long, prosperous life and wish him all the best, right up until it comes to how it affects the Giants. I'm a fan of the Giants first and his well being se..well, far from second...but you get the picture.
  5. Well then, if there's a competition to be the starter, than I wouldn't fault him at all for going. If it's just about the money though...
  6. SF has dominant O-line, great defense, great RB, and great TE. Manning + 1 or 2 mid range WRs make them an instant SB favorite. I just flat out don't get the lack of interest there. Maybe it is an NFC thing for Manning and maybe SF really does have faith in Alex Smith. I guess I should be glad that doesn't all happen as a Giants fan...but I guess too I want an explanation as to why it's not happening, because it just makes too much sense not to...y'know?
  7. Yes, the cap increase will certainly help consume any potential cap hit we'd take...but at the end of the day, we'd still take a hit for cutting said players.
  8. Don't recall seeing that if they did. Admittedly, I don't follow TB all that closely. If so, I'd understand a little more the desire for Carr to head there.
  9. With getting the guys they have thus far, it definitely looks like the place to be for FA. I too think that TB is on the upswing whereas Atlanta is falling and New Orleans is just treading water.
  10. I'd have to see how much more I'd be making. If it's me, I'd take slightly less to stay with a SB/playoff calibur team.
  11. Restructuring by means of converting salary to bonus money, like Eli did...only worsens the cap hit in out years. Look up my post on T2's deal where I went through it all.
  12. Just saw on espn that he cut his meeting short with KC to head to Minnesota where he was expected to sign. Didn't think we were in the market for any big name TE...just someone to hold the fort until Ballard comes back and a draft pick develops.
  13. Don't get me wrong, I hope they draft RG3, and he promptly gets hit by a fucking truck, thereby ruining his NFL career forever, and as such, screwing the Redskins right up their own ass...the only thing that'd be better is if JPP was said truck...but I try to be objective when discussing a rival's acquisitions.
  14. I guess, but a chance at winning a championship should mean something, don't ya think?
  15. Eh, with Peyton not having Wayne to join him and Marshall leaving, I think it leaves Miami a bit undesireable if I'm Manning. Tough to say who's the favorite now, but I still can't believe that San Francisco isn't making more of a push. I don't see Alex Smith being the guy. The team didn't have great WRs, but they certainly didn't have a great QB either.
  16. missed it yesterday, but they were resigned as well. Just some depth guys in the secondary and some ST guys, but was hoping we'd see them again.
  17. We'll see how talented Garcon really is on his own accord compared to how good Peyton made him look. I'm not overly worried about Garcon and Josh Morgan....they don't scare me all that much. That said, they're not bad pickups for the Redskins. They're not the big, flashy names that the Redskins are known for getting. I think they may have overpaid Garcon a bit, but if they think he can contribute at a high level for RG3, than I can't be too critical.
  18. I'd assume that the salary in the option years would not count against the cap in the option years unless the option was actually picked up by the team and/or player. As for original bonus money, I don't know if that's prorated over the base agreement or if that's prorated over the base agreement + option years. Might have to keep an eye on T2's deal on spotrac given the Giants have an option to release him after 1 year. Not sure how that'd affect his 11 million guaranteed in regards to the cap. Would that bonus get accelerated into next year, thereby all but forcing the Giants to pick up the option? Is that where injury settlements come in to play? Don't know.
  19. So you go from backing up Eli to backing up Freeman....not sure why you'd make that jump.
  20. Not in the general sense, no. As suggested above though, it's possible that some teams ask a player to give up a portion overall, in order to guarantee a larger percentage. So, if originally a 5 year deal for $20 million with a $5 million signing bonus...often quoted as 5 year deal with $5 million guaranteed...potentially worth $25 million total. This deal could be restructured at a cost to the player for say $2 million to up the signing bonus to $12 million. Therefore, the deal becomes 5 year deal for $18 million with a $12 million signing bonus. In some cases, a player would be willing to do this to guarantee their receipt of the $$ regardless of whether or not they're cut/traded.
  21. Generally speaking, it becomes an upfront, guaranteed, bonus-like payment that for cap-accounting purposes, is prorated out over the remaining years of the contract.
  22. That could be the avenue the Giants go down with Rolle and maybe Canty. We'll guarantee X dollars now, but overall you'll get paid less. So essentially the player decides to pay x dollars to guarantee a larger portion of their contract.
  23. It's not easy putting that in writing, but you're welcome. Those big contracts are ones we're likely stuck with this season unless they agree to pay cuts, not just restructuring.
  24. We carried 3 TE last year, right? Beckem, Ballard, and Pascoe. Who's the odd man out once Ballard retrurns from injury...Ballard, Pascoe, draft pick, veteran FA? For the sake of discussion here, I'm assuming Beckem is as good as gone.
  25. They have that potential with RG3 and Helu. But I think you're assuming that the rest of the team will remain the same until then. The veterans who are on the team now will all be 3 years further in their careers too, without much ability afforded to the Redskins to replace/upgrade talent that falls off. IF the Redskins can find a couple of starters, just 2 or 3 solid guys in the later rounds of this year and next...it'll ease the transition to RG3 greatly. Otherwise, it'd be a lot of potential wasted for more than a few players.
