  1. With 6 other linebackers, they wouldn't need to replace him with anybody.
  2. Hat tip to Eli and Abby Manning. https://www.umc.edu/News_and_Publications/Press_Release/2016-09-06-00_Eli,_Abby_Manning_pledge_$1M_to_Children_s_of_Mississippi_s__Growing__capital_campaign.aspx
  3. Probably a quick negotiation: Take a pay cut or we will release you...
  4. 8 linebackers was overkill, Brinkley is one-dimensional, and my guess was he wouldn't survive cut-down day to 53. Simply because we have 4 other linebackers that can play his position, and 3 of which are more athletic, better in coverage. This was just a delayed cut, he was replaced when they signed Sheppard and we had no major injuries to justify his roster spot.
  5. It could certainly be that way, and my bias may be effecting this because I like Sheppard at MLB more, as I believe him to be more athletic and rangey than Brinkley, and I believe Goodson will be taking that job before the season is over. But Brinkley certainly has credibility and is a good run-stopper, so he may make it. Toughest position group for me to project because there are so many veterans in this group.
  6. I wrestled a bit with Herzlich but he is a good special teamer which is why I have him making it. Brinkley could eqsily make this team, if there is someone that I think I have making it that I'm not as confident on it's JT Thomas III. I hope he stays because I think he's a better player than Brinkley.
  7. Have never nailed this but let's give it a shot: Offense (25) QBs (2): Eli Manning, Ryan Nassib RBs(5): Jennings Williams Vereen Perkins Darkwa Notable cuts: Rainey Darkwa outplayed Williams when it came to running the ball this preseason, but I don't think the Giants want to give up on Williams just yet. Rainey had ball security issues despite some big plays. I think the Giants wouldn't normally carry 5 RBs, but believe Darkwa played himself on the roster and that this battle will continue into the season. WRs (6): OBJ Shepard Cruz Harris Davis King Notable cuts: Roger Lewis Lewis' performance was just uneven. King showed a lot with his opportunity. I don't think this one is close anymore, King seized the job definitively. TEs/H-Back (4): Donnell Tye Johnson Adams OL (8): Flowers Pugh Richburg Jerry Newhouse Beatty Gettis Hart Defense (25) DE (5): JPP Vernon Odighizuwa Wynn Okwara (huge preseason, showed he could be a productive, versatile player) Notable cuts: Maponga DT (5): Hankins Harrison Bromley Nix Hughes I think? LB (6): Casillas Kennard Sheppard Goodson Herzlich J.T. Thomas III Notable cuts: Jasper Brinkley, Keenan Robinson Not sure what to make of this group. Some of these guys are key contributors to special teams, too. CBs (5): DRC Jenkins Apple Hall Wade Notable cuts: Deayon (PS), Leon McFadden S (4): Collins Thompson Thompson Berhe Specials (3): P: Wing K: Bullock LS: DeOssie
  8. I think he made the team with this performance.
  9. I actually think it's going to come down to this game. Lewis' ability to get open has impressed me. We shall see, but I think this one is really tight and could go either way.
  10. Stingily on IR, right? I think Malleck also.
  11. No surprises. It did seem that White had fallen behind both King and Lewis. IN the case of Whitlock, don't they commonly re-sign these kinds of players after clearing waivers, and then place on IR? I think that will be the case with him.
  12. Jenkins is not bad. He's going to make plays. The TD was good coverage, just a better play by Fitzmagic and Decker. I like our entire defense. They aren't the problem.
  13. Bobby Hart has looked abysmal for 2 games in a row now at least. Ryan Malleck was the other guy that totally whiffed on the block earlier that had the Giants running back blown up in the backfield earlier.
  14. Sheppard, Robinson have looked good here. Robinson flashing at least twice tonight. Casillas out, hopefully not serious, because that could be a quality trio of linebackers.
  15. I put my credit card in for the 7 day free trial, and will cancel before it charges. No biggie, and casting to the big screen, and it's a perfect, HD stream.
  16. Romeo Okwara getting early game reps in the dress rehearsal. Spags/Mac obviously want to see him against 1's, bodes well for his chances of making the team. Helluva play by Kelvin Sheppard there.
  17. Orleans Darkwa with a pathetic block attempt on the blocked punt, and Vereen totally misses his blitz pickup responsibility. The offense doesn't seem to have any cohesion, and once again, not getting any push or opening any creases in the run game, and not providing protection for Eli in the passing game. Silver lining is that this defense is fast and powerful, and they look in midseason form. Dak Prescott will not have been able to prepare for what the Giants defense is going to be bringing him.
  18. What's your problem? I said it wasn't a criticism of Reese, just a what could've been. Everyone does the hindsight thing. If anyone, I'm one of the least critical guys when it comes to criticism of drafts gone by. The draft isn't easy and it is a crapshoot even if you get a talented player (David Wilson, Kenny Phillips, etc.). I'm much more critical of not addressing problems in free agency when cap space is not an issue. That is where I believe Reese's record has been more lackluster. And also for the record, I give him props for being aggressive in getting Vernon, Harrison, and Jenkins here, and I'm one of the few believers in the linebacker overhaul, and thought he had the best draft this year than I can remember as a Giants fan (better than '07).
  19. I understand the point but if the team is better off not having a glaring hole at RT in Newhouse (and it would be even if Flowers had to temporarily switch to that side), then you do that. Flowers can go back to LT in a couple of seasons or even earlier. I may be in the minority on this but I think Okung is a very good player and will be a great investment for the Broncos. And don't forget the Jets got Clady AND a 7th rounder for a 5th round pick. Come on. Get one of the better tackles in all of football for a 5th round pick? I would've easily parted with a 4th rounder for Clady. You bring Clady in and you say, to Flowers, do what you do on the right side, this makes our team better. You will get your time. You think the Broncos would've rather traded Clady out of the AFC all things being equal?
  20. Where Pugh was drafted you hope he's a left tackle and settle if he can play an effective right tackle. That he seems to be ok at OG is better than busting but the intent was for him to play the tackle position when he was drafted. Terron Armstead went in the third round of that draft, btw, and is one of the better LT's in football. Could've been had in the 2nd, and was a prototype LT... only knock was he was a small school guy. Not a criticism, but more of a "what could've been."
  21. That's my point. The insistence that Flowers couldn't possibly be moved onto the right side hurt the chances dramatically that the Giants would improve the OL.
  22. Okung signed for 1 year, $5 mil, with team options. Zero dollars guaranteed. We could've gotten him, the money was there. And he only needed to better than Newhouse to justify the money.
  23. A few years ago there was some scuttlebutt that JPP was telling friends he's going to go for the most money possible, no hometown discount or any other kind of discount. Now this was before the accident, and he has matured since then also, but don't forget that things weren't exactly on the best terms between the JPP camp and the Giants camp for the weeks and months following the accident also. So who knows if, after all that has happened, if the events of the past year have helped or even hurt the Giants' chances of retaining him beyond this season.
  24. Yes, and they did themselves a disservice. Seemingly every position the job must be earned, and the best players are going to play, but in Flowers' case, they would not allow the competition that is supposedly so important at other positions. They could have said, you can earn LT, it will be a competition between you and Flowers, and the loser moves to the right side. I wish they would have done that, I think we could've gotten a veteran here.
