I REALLY don't like Fewell. I frankly wanted him gone after the SB season. I just think he brings absolutely nothing to the table. His defenses are just vanilla and purely reactionary. Do we ever do anything that an offense has to gameplan for? It drives me nuts. You've gotta try to dictate the terms of the game. You can't just sit back and react to what the other team is doing. Give me someone with creativity, planning and a backbone, whose schemes will inevitably not always work, over this guy who doesn't scheme at all. Our defense will never really cause too much trouble for a decently constructed offense that has a gameplan. -Z

Any updates on him? I like the potential on Williams, but he isn't ready yet to be the guy. Our run blocking isn't great, but we're leaving too many yards out there on the field. The offense hummed when the run got consistent positive yardage and we were consistently getting into manageable third downs. Less pressure on the o-line equaled less penalties too. What's his status? -Z

I get in a good mood whenever Logan Mankins is brought up...because I can't hear the name Logan Mankins without recalling Justin Tuck's dominance of him. -Z

I honestly don't ever remember being very impressed with Eli in the preseason. I specifically vividly remember him and the offense looking absolutely pathetic and inept in the 2011 preseason....and he went on to play the most poised, dominant, and in control season of his life. I pulled up the stats on nfl.com just to confirm. In the 2011 preseason Eli completed only 49% of his passes and had a QB rating of 51....and that was with him attempting 55 passes, a far larger sample size than we're getting in this preseason where, as Tree pointed out, they seem to be focused mainly on running the ball. Now I'm not saying not to be worried about Eli. I actually think we should be VERY worried about Eli, as it's been about a season and a half since he has been a competent quarterback. I'm just saying I wouldn't make too much out of his sucking in preseason, because he has sucked in preseason before (playing in a system that had been in place for years!) and played amazing during the season. -Z

Jerrel Jernigan shouldn't be on this team anymore. He certainly shouldn't be taking up a roster spot that someone who may actually have potential could be in. I'm not a fan. -Z

One of my favorite players from that team. Slow as anything, but knew how to run a route, knew how to find the hole in a zone, knew how to catch the ball, and played with everything he had. Thanks for everything Jake. -Z

He means to say that Ernie drafted Elway and Eli, and clearly had a great sense for QB's, but he didn't necessarily possess the same sense for evaluating talent at other positions. -Z

I think this old gem from EA is in order here: Wears left knee brace… During pregame warmup, didn’t look like he had a rocket arm… As game progressed, I saw excellent arm strength under pressure and the ability to get velocity on the ball on most throws. Good deep ball range. Good touch. Good vision and poise. Sees the field… In shotgun on most plays and his only running option is a draw… his offensive line is poor. Red-shirt freshman left tackle. Eli doesn’t trust his protection. Can’t. No way he can take any form of a deep drop and look downfield. With no running game (10 yards rushing the first half) and no real top receivers, he’s stuck with the three-step drops and waiting til the last second to see if a receiver can get free. No tight end either. No flaring back. So he’s taking some big hits. Taking them well. Carried an overmatched team entirely on his shoulders. I imagine, except for Vanderbilt, his team is overmatched in every SEC game… He’s big, never gets rattled. Rallied his team from a 14-3 halftime deficit basically all by himself. Led them on two successive third quarter drives to go ahead, 17-16. The first touchdown, a 40-yard streak down the left sideline, he dropped the ball over the receiver’s right shoulder. Called the next touchdown pass himself, checking off to a 12-yard slant… Makes a lot of decisions on play calls at the line of scrimmage, but they ask too much of him. They don’t just let him play. This is a guy you should just let play… When he’s inaccurate, he’s usually high, but rarely off target to either side… Plays smart and with complete confidence. Doesn’t scold his teammates, but lets them know when they line up wrong or run the wrong pattern… Threw three interceptions. Two were his fault. Trying to force something both times. He could have run on one of them, a fourth down play. He has a lot to learn. Summary: I think he’s the complete package. He’s not going to be a fast runner, but a little like Joe Montana, he has enough athletic ability to get out of trouble. Remember how Archie ran? In that department, Eli doesn’t have the best genes, although I never timed mom Olivia in the 40. But he has a feel for the pocket. Feels the rush. Throws the ball, takes the hit, gets right back up… Has courage and poise. In my opinion, most of all, he has that quality you can’t define. Call it magic. As [former Baltimore Colts defensive back] Bobby Boyd told me once about Unitas, “Two things set him apart: his left testicle and his right testicle.”… Peyton had much better talent around him at Tennessee. But I honestly give this guy a chance to be better than his brother. Eli doesn’t get much help from the coaching staff. If he comes out early, we should move up to take him. Firstly, my "for a while now" was referring to last year. Of course, it could be his physical condition was already so unbearable last year as well, but that wasn't my impression. If I'm wrong about that than by all means I retract my mailing it in comment. Secondly, my main point wasn't his effort level but the bottom line that he has been ineffective for a while now. I wasn't coming to rip him, I really like the guy and he has been a huge guy on the team. He just doesn't get the job done anymore, and hasn't since the beginning of last season. It takes a while sometimes to process and accept that a former pro-bowler and stalwart just doesn't have it anymore like he used to, but I think that has become evident with Snee. -Z

If this is the end for him, then I thank him for the ride, he was a big part of this team for a long time, and was a force in the running game. In terms of impact in the here and now, Snee's been mailing it in for a while now. Was never really the same after Seubert and O'hara left. He comes with the stature of a veteran, Pro-Bowler, and two time SB champion, and there's always something to say for that, but the guy was pretty ineffective at this point. -Z

- This team has too much glittery talent at showy positions like WR, and has forgotten that the game is won in the trenches, mano-a-mano. Especially when you take into account Eli's absolute lack of athleticism, it's clear that the Giants need to be All-World at the line and average at WR, and not the other way around like they are now. - They don't want it...plain and simple...this is the NFL, not your local pick up game, everyone is a pro and the difference between the guys who are great and the guys who are average isn't that big, and that difference is highlighted when the average guy wants it and the great player doesn't. Mr Average will win every time. EVERY time. Maybe winning two SB's in New York in six years is just too darn gratifying. The urgency and intensity just isn't there, and hasn't been since they came off the SB win and went out last year and proved again to everyone that they can roll with ANYONE in the league when they want to. It's like they proved that, and having established that fact, just rolled over. No one's giving you an inch in this league, and the Giants are expecting playoff runs to come to them, forgetting that the magic of the past was built snap by snap, yard by yard, game by game. They went out and played cleaner, more disciplined, and more intense football than the other team. The few great players on the team and all the average ones. This team has no heart, no edge, and they haven't since they laid the smackdown on the Niners last year. (With the exception of the brief wakeup against GB.) I don't know how or if you get heart back, but this team needs a whole lot of it. - Can we bring back Mike Sullivan? The only time in his career that Eli has looked like a genuine elite QB, a QB who brings it to the defense and dictates the game and is a force to be reckoned with, was under the coaching of this man. I want him back. -Z

Between JPP, Nicks, and Cruz, I think we're only going to be able to keep two out of three. And I think keeping those two will really make it hard for us to keep a quality roster all around. Tough situation, although definitely a good problem to have as opposed to not having the talent in the first place. -Z
