Where I was going with it was that had we won our piece of shit division, our fate likely would've been the same and we'd be picking 21st, not 10th.

By the last two games, there was absolutely nothing to be gained and everything to lose by winning....except perhaps, pride in a mid-talented team.

With all the free agent money available this year along with a great draft position, we should be able to restock if they boys in the front office play their cards right. We're not that far off from being a contending team...especially if we can get past the injury bug. We still have Eli and OBJ, Hankins and DRC, up 'n comers Collins and Kennard, not to mention the possibility of a healthy Cruz coming back.

We definitely need to fix the defensive backfield and get a good pass rush going. If we can do that, we're on the right track. We have the tools with cap space and draft position to right the ship if we play it smart.

Yeah, for sure. Always good to be in the top 10 on draft day, but it also means you had a sucky season.

We should be able to get a good starting player at that spot and maybe a future star.

Plus, we rotate back and forth throughout the rounds with Tampa as we had the same record as them and they get the 9th pick in round 1.

Our pick in the 2nd round would be 9th, instead of 10th, and will be like getting the 8th since NE loses their first round pick.

Hopefully, we get a star player and a solid starter with our first two picks.

and then flip back and forth between 21st and 22nd with the Texans for each round

With New England losing their 1st round pick, everyone moves up a spot in the second round for overall draft pick if not thinking of it from each round.

Cowboys are in a sweet position to strengthen as they have the 4th, 3rd, 4th, 3rd and on down the line. And of course, with NE losing their pick, the Boys get like a no.2 pick in the 2nd round.

Tom Coughlin took out a big ad in the New York Times to thank fans (probably cost thousands of dollars). What a class act.

Beason is about to go under the knife for another knee surgery. He says he'll wait and see how his knee feels in a few months, but was not optimistic. He is pondering retirement if he isn't 100% (and hell, he hasn't been 100% in years).

This past season Beason finished with 18 tackles and no other recorded stats. His best game came against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 7 when he finished the game with 11 tackles. He was only able to appear in five games all season, making four starts and on the field in 162 snaps.

Mara and the front office should offer Tom a lucrative advisory position and give him oversight of scouting.

That wasn't Marrone's decision it was Doug Whaley's. He was also at odds with Whaley over trading picks to draft Sammy Watkins, Marrone wanted to stay put and draft...Beckham. He left Buffalo more because of Whaley. Apparently players really loved Marrone in Buffalo though

When S.U. hired Marrone, I was more excited about Orange Football than I have been in years. I had optimism for the first time since the McPherson / Pasqualoni era. When he left to take the Bills job, my heart sank and I was really pissed. I suppose if your ultimate goal is to coach in the NFL, then it makes sense. But opting out of the Bills' head coach position really baffled me. Good to know that he and Whaley were at odd. It puts a little sense into confusion for me.

A little Trivia for you guys: The original school colors for Syracuse University were Light Pink and Pea Green. The colors were so ugly and the students hated them so they changed them to Dark Pink and Azure Blue, which lasted a decade or so, but still lacked power symbolism and did not imply strength so they finally switched to all orange (the navy blue was added later as the contrasting edging and high-lights for the white home uniforms) and that is how they got their name, "Syracuse Orange".

I tend to think they want to pick TC's brain. He'll be 70 years old shortly so it's doubtful he's going to be coaching for the next 4 or 5 years and it will take that long to turn the Eagles around and set them up with an entirely new system.

If TC was 60, I'd be worried.

I will be sick as can be if he takes an office job in an advisory position.

If anything, it sure shows the short-sightedness and absurdity of making TC the fall guy while keeping the builder of the team, Mr. Reese.

The thing I never understood about Marrone, is that his QB at Syracuse during the couple of years that the team did the best it had in more than a decade, was Ryan Nassib. And Marrone praised and praised him and gave him much credit for taking the team to a bowl game.

Then Marrone jumped ship at SU as soon as Nassib was to graduate and when Marrone was drafting for his new team (the Bills), he didn't draft Nassib and instead, took EJ Manuel shocking everyone who knew the connection between Marrone and Nassib. Manuel of course, didn't turn into the second coming of Cam Newton. After 3 years in the NFL, Manuel this past season threw for 3 TD's and 3 interceptions and is the 2nd or 3rd QB off the bench, depending on who you listen to.

In the strangest turn of events, the Eagles are toying with the idea of hiring TC.

I can't believe he'd ever take the job, but who knows what goes on behind the public persona. Could there have been an unhealthy division between Tom and the front office that was kept quiet?

Who knows. I just find this strange and disconcerting.

Flowers received the worst grade of all 32 first round picks

Is it based on the number of sacks he gave up? The Giants ranked 11th out of 32 for allowed sacks and were better than every team in the AFC http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/ol

And that takes into consideration sacks given up by Newhouse and Jerry.

Flowers is a breath of fresh air with his attitude, his competitive spirit, his dedication to the game, his choosing his family over friends who choose to drink, party, snort, and fuck. And he's one of the strongest players in the NFL.

O-Diggy? Oh, the dude who was out for like an entire season with a fucking sprained ankle?

Yeah, the injury was a unwanted surprise. But deep down, I think he is going to become a star....knock on wood.

Agree with all but Collins for ROY. I'd go with Flowers.

I thought the same thing. Flowers was stuffed into the hardest position to play as a rookie and held up well, limiting Eli to the fewest season sacks in his career (some credit must be given to McAdoo's quick strike system though)

And he was hurt - but continued to play hurt...which is a real football player.

I've often wondered if the Giants toyed with the idea of taking Collins with their first pick. They seemed awfully anxious to trade up in the 2nd round to grab him as though they were stunned that he was still on the board after round one.

Either way, we got a couple of top shelf players in the last draft. Too bad they went brain dead after selecting O-diggy!

Defensive Player of the Year: Robert Ayers

Ayers set career-highs across the board despite playing only 12 games, as he received more snaps. His 41 tackles, 9.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and four passes defended were all career-highs for the seventh year player. The 9.5 sacks led the Giants, as he also paced them in quarterback pressures with 48 according to Pro Football Focus. He recorded multiple pressures in every game that he played in as well, and had only one negative game grade this season also according to Pro Football Focus.

Ayers finished the season extremely strong for the Giants, getting at least one sack in each of the final five games of the season and continuing to play hard despite the Giants playoff hopes being slim. He is slowly justifying his first round pick status.

Alternate Defensive MVP: Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie

He was really the only consistent player on that defense. When he was in the game, the unit seemed to at least have a chance. And its no coincidence that as soon as he left the game in Washington the Redskins uncorked a deep ball. He means a lot to the defense because hes that good and because of the lack of depth.

DRC, despite dropping some easy, easy interceptions, played at a Pro Bowl level for a majority of the year. DRC graded out relatively well in Pro Football Focus; ratings, too.

Rookie of the Year: Landon Collins

Despite being taken in the second round, Collins was by far the best rookie for the Giants in 2015. He was the only defensive player to never miss a game and he played a consistent and integral part on the defense.

He struggled in the beginning of the season, as he had a tough time in coverage. I continue to point to the New England game as the turning point of Collins season. After he dropped an interception that wouldve ended the game, Collins took his game to another level.

Collins still wasnt phenomenal in coverage, but he began to make plays on the field. His hard-hitting mentality made him a thrill to watch.

Biggest Disappointment of the Year: Victor Cruz]

Cruz runs away with this award, which is sadly the most running he did all year.

This was supposed to be an offense that featured a lethal one-two punch of Odell Beckham Jr. and Victor Cruz. Unfortunately, Cruz injured his calf early on and was eventually placed on season-ending IR. The most disappointing thing about it, though, was that it seemed like he was set to come back, only to be told he would have to wait another week.

The "Out of the Blue" Award: Will Tye

Larry Donnell was the presumptuous starter entering the year, as many, including me, thought he would take a big step forward.

What happened was a lot of regression, as Donnell finished the season on IR. He also only finished the year with 29 catches for under 250 yards. His replacement turned out to be the un-drafted Will Tye, and the unknown player turned heads.

He proved to be a reliable option in the passing game during the tail end of the season, and he should be a bigger part of the offense next season. Nicknamed "Baby Gates," Tye has the receiving ability to develop into a nice complementary piece to Odell Beckham Jr.

Unsung Hero Award: Weston Richburg

Richburg played like a Pro Bowl center for the entire year, and he simply doesnt get the credit he deserves. He switched back to his natural position and the Giants reaped the rewards.

When he was under center, the offensive line was simply just a different unit. Hes not an amazing athlete, but his natural aggression and technique makes him one of the best centers in the league.

He played nasty and mean for the entire year and never took a play off. In crucial moments of the game, Richburg was one of the guys to give it their all. I seriously expect Richburg to be a perennial Pro Bowl player in the near future.

Offensive MVP and Team MVP: Odell Beckham Jr.

Its obvious, but this award couldnt have gone to anyone else. When Beckham was on the field, the offense was able to move the chains. During his one-game suspension, though things got ugly real fast.

You could make a serious argument that no player is as valuable to his team than Beckham is. The offense can barely function with him not there.

Truth be told, I wanted to give this award to Eli. But for some reason I still think the offense would be able to function sans Eli as long as Beckham is playing.

When the offense needs a big play, Beckhams the guy to make it. Without Beckham, this team is probably no better than three wins. He was the only viable option in the passing game for most of the season. There were times when he felt unstoppable. Beckham took over games nearly single handedly.

His presence is paramount and his play is insane. So congrats, Odell.

Certainly no surprise there. I've been saying forever that we shine early, then play the dumb kid after round 3 kicks in. I can count on two fingers the keepers we've drafted after the 3rd round in the last few years that were good picks: Kennard and Nassib (even though some on here hate Nassib). I have my fingers crossed on Bobby Hart and Cooper

2011 draft we got Prince in round 1 - after that, every single player we drafted is out of the NFL and apart from Jacquian Williams, didn't even see the field except in extreme cases. That is pathetic

LOL... was typing on my phone. I meant a flex defense... would like to see them have packages with both base defenses to mix up what the QB sees and keep players fresh. Not easy to do but the Patriots do it and I like it.

 

I don't think we have enough good linebackers right now to run the 3-4. You could have Casillas, J.T. Thomas, Kennard, and Beason out there... just looked and Beason is signed through next season. I suppose he could be cut. But the Giants don't really have enough right now to run it, but that's something they could fix quickly. Cullen Jenkins could play end in a 3-4.

I looked up the Patriots' defense and it's called the "Fairbanks-Bullough 3-4" system also known as a flexible two gap system.

"The defensive system generally places an emphasis on physicality and discipline over mobility and risk taking characterized as a 'bend but do not break defense'. A system largely used by Bill Parcells"

To work right requires having an excellent front seven. More priority is put on linemen and linebackers than the defensive secondary.

If we switch systems, we have a long way to go to put together a good linebacking crew. Apart from Kennard, I'm not sure we have anyone capable of using that system.

As mentioned, Hank could play the nose. JPP can still play end in a 3-4. I think Bromley could be the other end. Owa would probably not be a fit. The linebackers we have might benefit. But I'd like to see them go to a foex defense. The Patriots play both. Would like it if we did that as well.

I am very comfortable with the 4-3 defense and was never a fan of the 3-4. But, with a new coach coming it that is completely up for grabs. It would change everything as far as player personnel and the draft. We would be shedding some players we thought we'd keep and we'd be looking for linebackers and hybrids as a top priority, probably both in free agency and the draft.

What are the chances of that happening?

These are just things running through my brain. I am not up to speed on the favored system of the coaches we are interviewing, but that seems to me to a big part of the equation when selecting a new head coach.

Is he small? On TV I had him pegged for at least six-two.

He lists himself as 5'10", but that's an exaggeration. He's closer to the 5'7"-5'8" range. He's got a little bit of Meggett attitude in him....hopefully, not Meggett's sexual antics that got him a 30 year prison sentence.

Let's not forget about restructures to Beatty and Cruz that could provide additional cap room.

 

I'm also not sure that the cap room stated includes guys like Beason who may be signed for 2016, but are likely to be cut outright.

There will be some money freed up through cuts and restructures. Eli has always stepped up to the plate for a restructure to help the team.

I think you are right and I think the only way they pried him away from Green Bay in the first place was a back room promise that he would be groomed to replace Coughlin in the future. I think Green Bay was grooming him for the same thing.

But the front office has to look as though they are doing their due diligence including adhering to the "Rooney Rule".

I don't believe the NFL has yet to determine the annual expanded cap space for next season yet. Supposed to be in the vicinity of 5 - 10 million extra. I imagine none of that will come out until after the Super Bowl is over.

So we should have more than 45 million and change. I think people who throw around the 50 million have assumed a 5 million expansion.
