  1. No, he's under contract. There would be a price. And I know Brady and Kraft came out and said there's nothing to the rift story and Bill will absolutely coach the Pats next year but notice who we didn't hear from? That would be the coach himself. I agree with Fringe - if the Giants stall past this coming weekend, there may be something to it.
  2. RE: Jags-Bills - While both QBs were bad and offenses were anemic, that was an exciting game!
  3. I agree, our #2 overall this year would be tough to part with......but if you have a chance to get arguably the greatest coach of all time, you make it happen. And while odds are probably against it, I don't think it's all that far fetched. Belichick has a huge ego and is furious that Kraft sided with Brady and made him trade Garraffalo. He's also had it with Brady calling too many shots, like with the trainer....and Brady is tired of Belichick calling him out harshly in film sessions, just to illustrate that everybody is accountable. Combine that with his love of the Giants and their whole organization and yeah, I could see it happening.
  4. Just when I think I've considered every over the top, outrageous possibility. This from SNY. Know what? Recalling the way Hoodie bailed on the Jets to go to New England, he's not adverse to sudden change. This might not be so far fetched. Discuss. The Giants were in New England today to interview the Patriots' offensive and defensive coordinators, but could they have a shot to steal away their head coach instead? Yes, the great Bill Belichick may be on the open market after news broke from ESPN that there is a power struggle between Belichick, QB Tom Brady, and Patriots owner Robert Kraft. The rift appears to have Belichick on one side, and Brady and Kraft on the other. A source close to Belichick says the Patriots' head coach understands this could be his only shot to return to Big Blue, according to the NY Daily News' Gary Myers. "I'm sure Bill knows this is his last chance to be the Giants coach," the source said. "Bill sees an opening -- an opening to get to the Giants." The source continued by saying Belichick definitely wants to be New York's coach, and believes him and new GM Dave Gettleman would make a great pair. "He wants to be the Giants coach. I know that for a fact," the source said. "That would be pretty cool. My guess is if he wants out, the Giants already know. He would be great with Gettleman. Bill is a football guy. Gettleman is a football guy." One of the main instances that has caused tension was when Kraft forced Belichick to trade fromer backup to Brady, Jimmy Garappolo, to the 49ers at the trade deadline. The Patriots received only a second-round draft pick in return, and Belichick was reportedly furious he had to do it. He viewed Garappolo as the team's future, but Brady believes he can play into his mid-40s, so Garappolo wouldn't be needed. Belichick wanted Garappolo for the future, but Kraft and Brady had different feelings. Also, there was always some tension between Belichick and Brady's trainer, Alex Guerrero, who used to receive special privileges like standing on the sideline during games, or having an all-access pass to the team's facility. However, Belichick stopped that this season. Belichick, Kraft, and Brady released a joint statement Friday to address the news they refer to as "flate out inaccurate." If Belichick manages to leak free of the Patriots, the Giants should make a bite on him. He spent 12 years with the franchise, six as the team's defensive coordinator under former head coach Bill Parcells. "This is a great organization," Belichick said back in 2009 when he walked around the Giants facility. "It's hard not to get choked up about it. I loved it here. I loved it here." Scott Thompson, SNY.tv | Twitter | I would bet you all the money in the world if the rumors are true and Belichick somehow breaks free of Kraft's death grip, the Giants put all of their chips out on the table and go after him. Because that's what you do when the best coach in NFL history is open for hire. The team's open position could be perfect timing, too. Forget the Super Bowl loses. Belichick loves the Giants and everything the organization stands for. For him to break down the stern facade and tear up walking around the building a few years ago certainly says something. I'm sure if Belichick got the call from Mara and Gettleman to come down and interview for the job, it would be the first stop on the long list of interviews he would be bound to receive. His track record speaks for itself, so I won't go into why he would make this Giants team better on the field. But, with off-the-field and character issues being a problem this season, Belichick would put a halt to it immediately. The man commands respect, and those who don't dish it out won't be tolerated. That is the way it should be between the coach and players, and you all have seen what happens when everyone is on the same page in New England... I've preached that having a younger coach has been the trend in professional sports, and that the Giants could benefit from having someone like Josh McDaniels or Matt Patricia in charge. But I'll take years and years of winning with Belichick over youth any day of the week. If -- and that's a really big if at this point -- Belichick is available, the Giants need to do what they can to get him in a sleeveless Big Blue hoodie on the sideline every Sunday. It could very well lead to a new era in football where the Giants sit atop the NFL.
  5. There are holes, to be sure, OL being the most obvious and the LBs and secondary are thin. We're also short a WR and could use a better than "serviceable" RB. But Beckham, Shepard and Engram are a great (young) receiving core. The D Line, at least on paper, should be solid. Assuming Jenkins gets his head right, he's a very good CB and Collins looks like a perennial Pro Bowler. Add the #2 overall pick and (PLEASE!) a few decent picks in rounds 2 through 6, along with a FA or two and we could be at least an 8 win team next year.
  6. THIS!!! Enough with the f*cking Patriots! Next I'm gonna be hearing their equipment guy is a GM candidate! And I think the Browns are gonna get fined for that. Rooney rule is a good thing. It's led to a bunch of hirings a year or two after the initial interview. Maybe a team knows they're not hiring a guy and just going through the motions but he impresses in the interview. GMs and front office types talk to each other a lot and names get circulated.
  7. Yes, he was a healthy scratch. He was never that badly injured. He missed time to be with his mother while she was undergoing and recovering from brain surgery. There was also the immature reaction to the "brutally honest" film session, when he almost walked out. Adding all that, Giants decided he wasn't emotionally or mentally prepared to play football at this time. Looks to me like they are going to make him miss playing and appreciate the opportunity he has. I do believe he's still on his rookie contract and I agree with Seph - he's got talent. Having him come into camp hungry and afraid of being cut wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for him.
  8. Agree he seems like a bright, hard working kid. But we have no clue if he's any good or not. If we have a chance to draft a 80-90% certain blue chip QB - and that's as certain as it gets in my mind - I say we take him and let them compete for #2 behind Eli next year and for the starting job the next year.
  9. That is, for those of us still watching the games!
  10. Apple is immature, even for a 22 year old. I remember all the scouts reports when we drafted him that he has no life skills - can't even cook a meal for himself, for instance. Then we heard that he almost bolted from the team after the "brutally honest" film session, when he was criticized. I have to think he's mentally sunk in the morass of this disastrous season and it's dragged his game into the gutter. Perhaps I'm being overly optimistic but at 22 years old, with a new coach and a new outlook, he is a bounce back candidate. I'm not writing him off yet.
  11. Heard Shawn O'Hara on NFL Network yesterday, said Jones stepped in and played better than Richburg and has earned the starting job. Said Richburg has not developed as expected. But Richburg has zero control over going on the IR for the concussion. The doctors and the team make that call, based on the league guidelines.
  12. And I would add that we haven't heard Flowers mentioned all that much lately. For a LT, that's a good thing. For better or worse, his recent improvement makes it a lock that he's our starting LT going into next season.
  13. Apple has been one of the major disappointments of this season. I thought he had a decent rookie year and was primed to develop into a solid corner for years to come........and that still could happen. Maybe he gets a Cory Webster-like awakening....or maybe he's just a bust. I think it's 50:50 which way he goes, which makes me the most optimistic person on this board, I guess. But boom, bust or in between, I can't kill drafting a CB. With all the multiple receiver sets these days, you need AT LEAST three solid cover guys and god forbid anyone gets hurt. I still have nightmares about TC's last year, with guys I barely knew who they were and have long since forgotten futilely chasing opposing receivers through the secondary. It's not the sexiest pick in the world and if they do their job well, you hardly notice them but a good corner is invaluable.
  14. I think he's hit the rookie wall we hear mentioned this time of year. Kid is going to be good for a lot of years beyond this one, though.
  15. No, of that list, only Smith and Shepard are considered "slot: guys, because that's what they are (or were in Smith's case). But I wouldn't preface that with "only" - a good slot receiver - see Wes Welker - can be deadly.
  16. I was there and if they didnt quit, they sure didnt show any fire. Except Jackrabbit. He quit.

    Ummm?

The only inadequacy when TC was here was the roster. Letting him go was a fan pressured mistake. And lets not pretend he isnt 2-0 against the almighty Belichek in Super Bowls. Theyll be sure to mention that when hes inducted in the Hall of Fame.
  18. Heard from a friend, who has a connection to the Eagle medical staff that Ajayi's knee is hanging by a thread and once it goes, it won't be repairable. That's the reason he was drafted lower than expected - 4th round. The Eagles are just rolling the dice, hoping that they can get some mileage out of him (and just maybe win a Super Bowl) before the knee goes.
  19. Presidio Heights, off California St. From what I hear, it's a pretty posh area.
  20. I hope you're right - I'm going to that game! Last road game I went to was in San Diego and we got smoked! No fun! Don't need to go through that again! Funny, when this trip to SF (my first) was first planned, the game was a central part of the six days I'll have out there. Now it's an afterthought!
  21. Damn right.....or at least making a strong January run. TC knew how to get the most out of his roster - and then some. BM is simply not on TC's level. Not even close.
