  1. We'll see what that's worth. I'm certainly not counting on this guy as a starter.
  2. Then again, here's Rotoworld's take: Patrick Omameh - G - Giants Giants signed OG Patrick Omameh, formerly of the Jaguars. Omameh struggled mightily as the Jaguars' starting left guard last season, and the Jags replaced him immediately in free agency with Andrew Norwell. So the Giants are picking up the Jaguars' scraps.
  3. I've been advocating for Nelson at 2, because he and Barkley are the best two players in the draft and I figured Barkley goes to the Browns......but can't imagine the Browns gave Hyde starter money to sit on the bench. I still want Nelson (yeah, I'm fixated - and stubborn!) but really couldn't quibble if we get Barkley.
  4. I've read 4 years, $60 or $62M.
  5. You seem to be alone in that assessment.
  6. I agree! Barkley and Nelson are far and away the best two players in the draft. I favor Nelson but wouldn't quibble much with Barkley for exactly the reason you site: take the best player available. If he's gone, Nelson is the next best player.
  7. So afraid we're gonna overpay for Solder and he'll be mediocre....or worse.
  8. Well, the OL in it's entirely IS our biggest headache. And most believe that Nelson is a 7 to 10 cornerstone, pro bowl anchor. If we trade down and get, say Buffalo's 12 and 22 (I think?) and next year's #1, which would be a lot, you're thinking we'd get three great players or even three very good players, instead of one. But those three players could also turn into the equivalent of Eli Apple/Prince Amukamara/Eric Flowers caliber player....or maybe we even hit on one or two and get a pretty good player, on the Justin Pugh level. More than likely, those three picks will get you a mix of pretty good to so-so. I'd rather have the ten year stud anchor than three maybes. Even going to # 6 (which wouldn't bring as big a return), you're dealing with a crap shoot after Barkley and Nelson. Give me the sure thing.
  9. Agree. This makes it imperative that we draft Nelson.....and don't get f*cking cute - grab him at 2. Tampa Bay is itching to move up from 7 and snatch him away, ala Conklin/Floyd.
  10. I'm just a little worried about the reports that he was getting run over on inside rushing plays. His tackle totals are impressive but how many of those tackles made it 2nd and 3? I do like the passes defensed numbers - he can clearly cover.....so given the reports of struggling against the run and the documented covering ability, are we so sure the Giants will keep him inside? And if he does stay inside, maybe Snacks does a better job keeping him clean than the Ram interior did? I find myself saying the same thing I was saying this time last year: a good team runs the ball and is hard to run against. We've checked neither of those boxes the last few years. We were 26th in rushing, 27th against the run.....and the Rams were 28th against the run. Hence, Ogletree is a Giant today.
  11. I'm with you. And I'm positive, if we trade down, someone will trade up and swipe him from under our nose - again! Seen that movie. F*ck that. You want Nelson, you don't get cute. Take him at 2. RB/OT next few rounds. Then sign Norwell. We're back to respectability.
  12. Damn, that's a different story. For a $10M cap hit, Giants obviously see him as a major contributor. Wonder if there's any chance the Rams are picking up some of that roster bonus $$?
  13. He was an outside LB, playing weak side his first two years, before the Rams moved him to MLB the last two seasons. He apparently struggled against the run, which isn't surprising at 235 lbs. I'm guessing Bettcher has him penciled in back on the outside. He was a first round pick in 2013 and has solid numbers in tackles and passes defensed (see link). Could be an excellent pick up.....and he's only $3M cap hit this year. http://www.rotoworld.com/stats/nfl/8383/alec-ogletree
  14. One of our 4th rounders and a 6th.....and we get a 7th back. Not bad. Low risk, maybe some reward if he fits the scheme, which he apparently did not with LA. But holy cap hit, Batman!! He better f*cking fit the scheme for $10+M a year! Giants acquired ILB Alec Ogletree and a 2018 seventh-round pick from the Rams in exchange for 2018 fourth- and sixth-round picks. The Rams just signed Ogletree to a four-year, $42 million extension in October but evidently didn't like his fit in DC Wade Phillips' 3-4 defense. L.A. was gashed by the run last season, and playing Ogletree and Mark Barron, a pair of converted safeties, at inside linebacker was a big reason for that. Both are extremely athletic, but they were too light and got pushed around by offensive linemen. The Rams recoup the fourth-rounder they sent to K.C. in the Marcus Peters deal with this move and clear a bunch of cash off the books for future long-term deals. Linebacker was a massive need for the Giants. Mar 7 - 4:01 PM Source: Adam Schefter on Twitter
  15. I just don't think Pugh is going to settle for "reasonable" money and really, why should he? Someone is going to give him 4 or 5 X $11M or thereabouts. I'd rather give Norwell, a year younger, healthier history and just a bigger, better player, 5 X $13M a year. Then I'd draft Nelson and be set at the OG spots for the foreseeable future.
  16. Let Pugh walk. Sign Norwell and draft Nelson with our first round pick (slight trade down?). Then grab a Tackle - or two- with later picks.
  17. Watching the combine, I'm really liking what I see out of Sony Michel. Yes, Barkley is better but Michel, at 5'11"/220 is fast and elusive, catches the ball well and watching some tape, he has excellent vision and instincts. Mayock is comparing him to Alvin Kamara but he's actually a little bigger and faster. Best of all, he very well might be there at the top of the 2nd round. How about Quenton Nelson in round 1 and Michel in the 2nd? I'd say trade down a few spots and take Nelson but knowing us, someone will trade up and take him from under our nose.
  18. Yup, I've read the same reports. Walked around all year with an "I don't give a f*ck" attitude.
  19. That's where I'm at, too. BUT, I'd like to know where the OL upgrade, which Gettleman cited as priority #1, is coming from. If neither later round draft picks or Free Agency hold promising options, I'd probably be disappointed at first but I'd completely understand if we passed on those two "glamour" picks, traded down and took the OG from Notre Dame......and then we'd still need a RT.
  20. Guy is a cancer. Stay away.
  21. Barkley is the safest pick. I would classify any QB drafted in the top 10 picks, especially #1 or 2 overall, as high risk/high reward. If he's what you think/hope, your franchise can be set at QB for the next 10 years.....but if he turns out to be a bust or even just mediocre, you set your franchise back 5 years. I don't follow college football well enough to have an informed opinion on any of the QB names you're all throwing around but if we draft one of them #2 overall, we damn well better be right about him.
  22. Don't know the exact number but I'd bet Eli was near the top of the league in how fast he got rid of the ball. That was by necessity and it's why we were near the bottom of the league in "chunk plays". We were also 26th in rushing. Can't wait to see the dismantling and rebuilding of this OL. As much as I'd like Barkley, I couldn't argue with trading down a few spots and getting the big, nasty OG from Notre Dame.
  23. I hope so. Pdub is one of the more reasoned voices on this board.
  24. Funny, I remember that draft vividly. I wanted the Throwin' Samoan, Jack Thompson and was disappointed when the Bengals grabbed him. When Rozelle said "Phil Simms, Quaterback, Moorehead State", I had never heard of him! Talk about a letdown! So even way back then, I knew little to nothing about college players and the draft.
