Here is a rumor that will make most happy

On NFL Total access tonight Adam Shefter reported the Denver Broncos and New York Giants have been involved in trade talks that would bring pro bowl middle linebacker Al Wilson to the Giants. According to Shefter the Broncos have been in negotiations with other teams as well, but the Giants seem the most "viable" trade partner and according to SHefter a deal "could get done as early as this weekend".

a Note for those unaware, Shefter use to cover the Broncos for a local Denver paper before coming to the NFL network as their main inside scoop reporter. He is reported to be very close to Denver coach Mike Shanahan.

This would be a tremendous move as Wilson is a very good very athletic physical linebacker.

Damn, you stole my thunder. I was just gonna post this... Oh well..

Anyway, I dont like it. Heres why. Al Wilson doesn't fit the younger team mold. I think having some of the younger players battle for the LB position would be a good thing. I also think we are going to the 3-4.

I also heard that Dre Bly is in the rumor too. That wouldn't be so shaby, but I have no idea what were willing to pony up for these guys, Strahan?? Draft picks( :puke: )??

AL WIlson is 29 years old, same age as Adalius Thomas and 3 years older than Lance Briggs. Although he is not a youngster, he is certainly not old.

As long as Osi and Kiwi and Strahan are on the team we are not switching to a 3/4. I would love to see some 3/4 looks with Kiwi lined up as the SAM LB, but I do not see it on an every down basis. For better or worse that DE tandem(throw Tuck in there too) is best suited for a 4/3.

I like it, Wilson is a good player and physical one.

No need to have to switch to a 3/4 as the Broncos did not play a 3/4 defense either.

Yeah but that would be 2 MLB's on the team, so would Wilson or Peirce switch to OLB or would one be a backup?

There have been numerous reports that the Giants are looking at possibly moving Pierce to the Will linebacker position. Realize one thing about Pierce, he was actually an OLB his first few years in the league and only moved to ILB in 2004 when injuries forced him inside. He had an awesome year, but he is versed in being an OLB. In reality there difference between a Will Olb in a 4/3 scheme and a ILB in a 4/3 scheme is miminal at best. Maybe the Giants do move Kiw to SAM some as has also been reported.

Heres the link

I like Wilson alot, but if no 3-4 and Pierce moves, he will lose a step. And before I get to giddy over this, I want to know what we are discussing giving up. If it's straight up Stray then by all means pull the trigger. If its for one or some of our promising DE or early draft picks then no deal. Of course this rumor has the makings of the corner of something huge. We have little cap space, so theres something brewing bigger or Reese is thinking about tossing valuable draft picks.

the idea that we have little cap space was floated out there by Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star ledger and one of his readers shot him down and explained why, shooling him on what is needed for the rookie pool. The Giants have cap space and have probably not had this much under this late in the free agent period before the draft in years. With the talent pool left now, you do not have to be 10's of millions under anyway.

I cannot see the Broncos taking Strahan nor the Giants trading him. I think this will involve picks and its more of a thing that the Broncos want his salary gone more so than the player. My guess is if this trade goes through the Giants give him a new deal lessening that 5 mil cap hit that he would cost in 2007. Similar to what the Bears did in the Archuleta deal.

If it is picks, I'll be sick unless there late rounds.

I also heard the possibility of a 3 team deal.

I would be willing to give a 3rd because my feeling would be he would be better than any player we could get in the 3rd for at least 2-3 years.

How about Jim Finn and a 4th rounder? :LMAO:

Sadly getting Pro Bowl talent is not cheap, but and this a huge but, the Broncos need that cap space and probably would be happy to get something rather than cut him. As for our sakes, I would rather have him here and get him reworked to a deal rather than having a bidding war on the open market, much like Reese did(quite well I might add) in getting Droughns.

3rd is too much to me. I would be willing to give a 5th, Torbor and/or Finn.

Bidding war could hurt us, but I am hesitant to give up picks when the team seems focused on being young. That and the fact that he would be transitioning from the MLB spot scares me.

Pierce is NOT moving. He commands the defense from that MLB position. And he is our best defensive player, and you do not mess with success.

Reese did AMAZING on that Droughns deal. The waste of a roster spot Carter who has proven nothing for a RB who has rushed for 1200 yards in two season? At least the player we got has shown he has talent.

Give em a third and Tuck for Wilson and Bly

That easily wins the "Stupid Comment of the Day" award.

The obvious trade is Tuck and a late draft pick for Wilson . The Broncos want rid of Wilson's salary by the look of it . Denver clearly need a DE and we have quality there in abundance. There is no way that we trade Osi or Kiwi. I can see a scenario where Reese offers the bait of Strahan ....but i would personally hate this.

If Denver is trading Wilson to rid of his salary, why the hell would they want Strahan?

Broncos would be stupid to take anything less than a 3rd rounder for Wilson, and they are still going to want a player like Tuck, they just released Courtney Brown so they are going to need help in that position, and Tuck is cheap.

If the Giants can maneuver to get Bly also, I'm for it, he's better than all 3 corners we have now. Too bad we still don't have the best cornerback in Giants history in Frank Walker to make a trade!!!

That said, just don't give up a 1st whatever you do. And they still need to draft a linebacker in the 1st....IMO.

By the way, if we get Wilson, word is he moves to the weakside.

Hmm... Wilson, Pierce, and a vet. minimum Arrington backed up by Wilkinson, Blackburn, and Torbor? Suddenly, our LB corp sounds pretty good.

I hate to say it... but I might give them Strahan for Wilson, straight up. Is that nuts?

Let's keep Arrington gone. He'll never make it through a full season again.

No, that's a steal at this point in Strahan's career.

Prick! I never said he was our best cornerback to ever play for the Giants. I just said he was our most talented CB on our roster. (Apparently, most Giants player think the same way) Which isn't saying much.

No, that's a steal at this point in Strahan's career.

Yeah, but it wouldn't make sense seeing that Strahan makes about double of what Wilson makes. And the only reason why Denver is even considering tradin Wilson is to save cap space.
