Giants tight end Daniel Fells spent weekend in hospital, season likely over: source

While the Giants were taking care of business in Buffalo, tight end Daniel Fells was hospitalized back home. He spent the weekend addressing a foot infection that required multiple surgeries and will likely end his season, a person with knowledge of the situation told NJ Advance Media.

Fells, 32, was a late scratch for this Sunday's game against the Bills. Coach Tom Coughlin said on multiple occasions throughout the week that he expected Fells to be ready for the contest despite an ankle injury. He was listed as probable for Sunday's game.

But Fells did not travel with the team on Saturday and they promoted tight end Will Tye from the practice squad to give them a second healthy tight end on the roster. Jerome Cunningham (knee) also missed the contest.

Fells had been a valuable asset (especially as a blocker) since joining the Giants prior to last season. He was re-signed this past offseason after starting nine games in 2014. Fells started the opener in Dallas before missing games against the Falcons and Bills. He was expected to provide a balance alongside Larry Donnell, who is known more for his pass catching abilities than his blocking.

The Giants are likely to make a roster move this week. Tye dropped the only pass thrown in his direction on Sunday.

Yikes, I wonder how Cooley looked.

I still think they should be calling Chicago and strongly consider trading for Bennett. Though with Chicago pulling a win out of their ass yesterday, maybe the fire sale is over for now. I'd still throw up to a 2016 4th rounder and a 2017 conditional 5th rounder for Bennett...no more than that though.

Will Tye has been ballyhooed, but he didn't help his stock dropping his very first pass yesterday that was a perfect throw with nobody covering him.

Hopefully, that was his one moment of butterflies and won't become a regular issue. I know TC is really high on him so hopefully, he is right.

But we should be scouring the practice squads of every team in the NFL looking for a bright spot to bring in.

Yeah, I like Bennett and no doubt he'd be a huge asset......but he's signed through next year, with a base salary about $5M and $1.1M in signing bonus, for a cap hit of $6.3M. Then again, our cap situation is supposedly in good shape for next year, so that leaves the issue of what they'd want for him. Could we get him for a #6, which is what they took for their big pass rusher?

Maybe we can go for that Ladarius Green dude once Gates is back for the Chargers? Even the Cowboys TE not names Witten Im OK with - cant recall his name - Spanish sounding.

Gavin Escobar...can't see the Cowboys parting ways with him given all the injuries they're dealing with.
