David Irving quits the NFL over Mary Jane policy.

Given a choice between his NFL career and marijuana, it seems Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman David Irving is emphatically choosing the latter.

The 25-year-old announced his decision in apt fashion on Thursday, blasting the NFL and defending his weed consumption ... while apparently smoking weed.

Cowboys DL David Irving’s NFL career literally goes up in smoke

Weeks before becoming an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his NFL career, Irving was suspended indefinitely by the NFL for a third violation of the league’s substance abuse policy. The Iowa State product had been suspended for the first four games of both the 2017 and 2018 season for previous violations.

“I’m in the NFL because I’m great at what I do,” Irving said in a previous Instagram post. “I’m not in the NFL because I’m an Eagle Scout, or the perfect model citizen.

Not knowing what his next NFL team will be or when it will be, Irving decided to instead go on Instagram Live and tell fans he’s done with the league.

As much as the media is trying to make it a thing about Irving choosing weed over the NFL, it almost highlights a bigger problem in the NFL and that's players popping pain pills like candy and getting loaded up with pain shots every game.

Some of these guys don't want to be chucking down pain pills like an addict every week, which is absolutely fine by NFL standards.

They'd rather use marijuana.

I don't see why it's such a big deal.

It's the same in the real world too. I have legitimate knee and back pain, and I can't take nSaids because they burned a hole in my gut 2 years ago. So I've been dealing with just living with the pain. I had to get a new doctor recently, so I outright said to her "I can't take nsaids, and I know as soon as I ask this question you're either going to think I'm a drug dealer or a drug addict, but I need something stronger than Tylenol for my knees and back". "Nope, can't do that" was the reply. Last month I asked if taking CBD oil or Marijuana gummie bears would affect my diabetes because I need something stronger than Tylenol, and which one she might recommend (hoping she would say "oh, no, don't take that, here's a script for pain killers). The reply: "Not really sure, but I'd use the CBD oil as we have no research on the sugar content of the gummie bears". I would kill to get a hold of some 10/325's.

My girlfriend has a medical marijuana 'script, she's a nurse and rolling fat fuck patients around all day in bed kills her shoulders/back.

It was as simple as walking into the doctor and saying "I don't want to kill my liver with pain killers, can I try medical marijuana?" and she had her license in under 24 hours.

It's fucking crazy how different countries handle it.

One thing that struck me was in his interview he mentioned you never hear about mlb or nba players suspended for weed, nfl is literally like multiple dudes a week.

Yeah just different sports.

Baseball and Basketball players dont have to get repeatedly tackled/hit by 300lb refrigerators game after game.

Wouldn't be surprised if most RBs were just popping pain pills every day along with shots.

you seem to be making a case that the NFL should be the most lenient on weed.

No just that it's the most violent in terms of abuse on the body outside of things like MMA.

I can see why players would rather have some other form of medication than just becoming some pill popping addict.

I don't think there should be any repercussions for smoking pot in any of these sports leagues.

Or for anyone for that matter.
