Owa walking away?

That's just dumb. He has a chance to be part of something special. Spags has a way of using more then 2 ends at the same time if he can rush the passer at all.

Is there any depth type ends left in FA?

Gotta love our luck/Jerry's inability to find players in the 3rd round who can contribute and last, beyond a few flashes.

2007 - Jay Alford

2008 - Mario Manningham (okay, Reese gets a pass here for his contributions)

2009 - Ramses Barden, Travis Beckham

2010 - Chad Jones (okay, this is not on Reese)

2011 - Jerrel Jernigan

2012 - Jayron Hosely

2013 - Damontre Moore

2014 - Jay Bromley (may be a decent backup at best)

2015 - OO

2016 - Darian Thompson (I'm optimistic about him though)

Doesn't mean shit unless you're going to research all other GMs success/failure on 3rd round picks. I'm not defending Reese necessarily, but just listing the 3rd rounders doesn't prove Reese better or worse than others, which is what I'm presuming you're trying to prove.

I thought Reese was terrible with third rounders too but somebody posted a stat back in the day of the 3rd round success rate, and while Reese is worse than your average GM it's not apples v. oranges worse.

Still though,,, you have to go back to 2005 to find a 3rd round pick on this team that was a real contributor, unless you count Mario Manningham as a 3rd WR.

I'd venture to say his record is worse...I'll look into it more though, to your point.

This idea is simply flawed at every level of logical thought.

Unfortunately there's no error bar so with can't estimate variance, but I would assume that if the Giants' 3rd round picks last, on average, less than 4 years TOTAL IN THE NFL (not just on the team that drafted them) it would be significantly different from the median career length of 6 years TOTAL.

Also note this analysis only takes account of players who actually signed contracts and retired. All the guys who were cut and didn't make rosters are not included (though this would be very few for a 1-3rd rounder it would be a lot for 6-7 rds) so Chad Jones shouldn't count.

The only 3rd round Reese picks that have retired are:

Alford - 3 years

Manningham - 6 years

Beckum - 5 years

Barden - 5 years

So a mean of 4.75 years. Alford had the MCL tear, not Reese's fault, so if you give him a Mulligan on that one it's a mean of 5.33 years. I don't think there's much of an argument to Reese being significantly worse at picking 3rd round talent.

Why aren't you counting Hosley? And what's the lower end range? I wonder what percentile that puts Reese in. Certainly would be in the lower half.

Probly since Hosely isn't technically retired yet

He served 4 years in poor form. Major disappointment

How do you compare the third round to the seventh?

Only difference I've seen from a third rounder to a seventh rounder is contract length and cost. We have had good players come from both rounds.

Giants draft players by consensus, the decision isn't made by one person. So when the Giants get it wrong or right it is a group decision. Take a good look at the last ten years concerning the Super Bowl:

Giants have 2 wins and 2 appearances.

Patriots have 2 wins and 4 appearances.

Colts have 1 wins and 2 appearances.

Steelers have 1 win and 2 appearances.

Packers have 1 win and 2 appearances.

Seahawks have 1 win and 2 appearances.

I can easily make the case that Jerry Reese should be in the top ten instead of the bottom five.

Because they pulled out 2 super bowls by miraculous magic? With the exception of the Colts, those other teams are quality year after year. That's what a GM does, not will divine intervention.
