Draft day trois, thread.

Connelly worked his way up the depth chart over the past four years at Wisconsin, stepping in for injured senior Jack Cichy in 2017. The Minnesota native was named honorable mention All-Big Ten as a junior after leading the Badgers with 88 tackles, 11 for loss, three sacks, and an interception in 14 games (six starts). He got the full-time gig in 2018, garnering third-team All-ACC honors with 89 tackles, 10 for loss, three sacks, and a forced fumble. He started 8 of 14 games played in 2016, piling up 59 stops, seven for loss, and an interception. Connelly contributed as a redshirt freshman, as well, making 15 tackles, one for loss, during the 2015 season. His cousin, Anders Lee, plays in the National Hockey League.

NFL Comparison

Ramik Wilson

Overview

Connelly fits the Wisconsin mold of tough, productive linebackers who end up lacking either size or speed as NFL projections. He’s not big enough to play SAM and he’s not fast enough to play WILL so he’ll end up as a slightly smaller/slower 3-4 or 4-3 inside backer. He does a decent job of playing around his deficiencies and finding ways to make impact tackles and he’s fairly instinctive is zone coverage. He has the demeanor and play traits to become a solid special teamer with average backup potential.

Strengths

  • Former walk-on who still plays like he's earning a spot each game
  • Functional short-area burst
  • Recognizes blocking scheme and where he can exploit it
  • Makes quick reads and races ahead of climbing blocks
  • Disciplined to guard against cutbacks
  • Above-average awareness of both quarterback and targets from zone
  • Has shown willingness to play and put off surgery
  • Takes the fight to blockers before they can get up on him
  • Went to Wisconsin.

Weaknesses

  • Turns shoulders and runs rather than using controlled scrape
  • Is coming off of a season-ending surgery
  • Pursuit speed from sideline to sideline doesn't hold up
  • Had the angle and couldn't catch Shea Patterson on a long run
  • Tries too hard to shoot gaps and gets out of position
  • Takes the worst of it on collisions with iso blockers
  • Blocks can stick to him longer
  • Below-average athleticism to overcome misreads
  • Drawn out of position by misdirection

We're fucked at C and RT.

I don't think centre is to much of an issue, Hiphopalito and Pulley did well at centre.

Like I said I think they go into camp with the RT spot open to win and just invite anyone and everyone in FA/undrafted

Hell they might even trade for a player before the season beings.

With the number of CBs drafted, Jenkins could be used along with a late round pick to grab a very capable RT.

Maybe sign Mike Remmers?

Halapio might be okay. Pulley is trash. Backup at best.

But both of them can at least start and do well at centre.

You're not going to just plug every hole in the draft.

Especially when your defensive is ranked dead last in almost every single defensive statistic.

Getty hasn't plugged those holes in FA or the draft.
